The router takes the Internet from your modem and converts it into a wireless internet signal. This now allows you to use devices that need wifi for internet access (like I-pads and tablets). Once you buy a router you can now purchase a Roku Streaming Media Player. This will allow you wireless internet access to Netflix as well as other movie Apps. I would suggest you read reviews and purchase a good router from a reputable company like NetGear. The better the router the more powerful your wireless Internet signal will be. Think of it as radio reception..if you have a cheap radio; your reception will be horrible but if have good radio your reception will be much better.
