So even after the sales rep at the store said this product didn't exist, I looked it up online and found it. It works well with my wifi signal on the second floor down to the living room. Connecting it directly with an Ethernet cable is best but this works just fine. For the price. I thought I would need to buy a wifi ready tv.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have a Samsung HDTV and we have DirectTV, I just put my TV on the wall and want to avoid the cable line from the TV to the DirectTV converter box.

Will this type of item work or do I have to get something different. I want to avoid having to rent the item from DirectTV
I don't think so. This is only so you can get the Internet on the tv. Like Hulu and net flux or HBO go
