Can this be used with a cable modem as a router in a wired home network?

It is an unmanaged switch. It cannot be used as a router, It is not DHCP-capable.

Can Netgear Prosafe model GS605 be used as a wireless wi-fi router?

I need a wireless Wi-Fi router to be used on a Mi Box. Currently the internet service is provided by EarthLink and a Belkin.cf2 router is used for my desk top and lap top computers.
What other parts (such as 2.4GHz/5GHz dual Wi-Fi connection cable) do I need to complete the Mi Box set up?
Your advice is much appreciated.

You can get a wireless access point, such as TP-LINK TL-WA801ND Wireless N300 Access Point, 2.4Ghz 300Mbps, 802.11b/g/n.

I have one and it works fine.
