does this record? do I have to connect to Ethernet/Wi-Fi/ or computer or phone?
I want something that records only when movement is detected and that I can review later. snapshots are sufficient
I also want this to either be outside and transmit via wireless to device inside
or be able to detect and record through the window

In order to record you need to buy a d-link network recorder. yes u need wifi and a I recommend smartphone or tablet works awesome. you can set it to detect/record movement

Can you add this to your computer
you can through the d-link website. I do not recommend it though due to the website constantly crashing. better used with tablet or smartphone.

Can you use this in a cottage up north and control it on a computer at home?
if your cottage has wifi, yes...use with smartphone or tablet. I do not recommend computer-

no sound. I installed mine in a corner outside my front door and most people do not know its there...
