We use this in a basement placed directly under where the primary router broadcasts on the floor above (which is the strongest place it can receive signal). It is able to take that signal and extend it throughout the rest of the furnished basement at speeds that match what we get upstairs.
I would recommend this to a friend!

good choice to make signal stronger downstairs when router is upstairs?

My router is upstairs in the opposite corner where I want to increase signal. When I use the laptop in the living room, the signal is between 2-4 bars. Ideally, I'd also like to have a stronger signal for Wii so I can use Netflix, etc. on my TV in that room.
If this isn't the best choice, can you recommend?
Yes, I think this can probably meet your needs. You'll want to place the extender as close as possible (directly underneath would be good) to where the router is, but on the floor where you want to improve signal. For us, it extends this signal in a basement, but without the interference of the intervening floor it is able to extend it the entire range of the basement.
