What's great about it: size, speed, battery, screen, light weight
What's not so great: Nothing yet
I purchased this item a week ago and I must say I am loving it. I had an Ipad mini with retina display and I must say the screen res and performance is much better. I cost less than my mini and with the ability to increase space is an added bonus. I can see myself being part of the Galaxy Pro family for years to come.
This product is... responsive touch screen, Good sound quality, easy to set up, lightning fast, Perfect for Business, Variety of apps available, A nice compact size, Sharp graphics, Easy to navigate, Great screen size, Comfortable to hold

Can we make voice calls from this tab as we do from other samsung tabs.

Yes if you download an app and are on wifi. LTE models are not out yest

Does this come with Microsoft Word?

If it does great, but if not do any of the PC laptops come with Microsoft Word?
All laptops come with a 30 trial of Office. Microsoft will never sell a laptop with office preinstalled.

Silly question...but can you watch DVDs on this computer?

Yes you can. It runs dvd and has a few video programs other than media player you can choose from.

Will a windows 8 system operate my Office XP pro?

I have MS Office XP pro on my old computer and I wonder if it would still run on this computer.
Yes. the great thing about this laptop is that it has a dvd-rom unlike others for the size and price. But Office XP will work just fine, faster than it did in your old system.

What is the battery life?

Specification information stated that this information was "unavailable"
The battery life amazingly is very good. I had it unplugged for about 6 hours last night using it and the life was almost gone but still running. I have a Dell Latitude from my job and the battery life is about the same.
