What's great about it: Phenomenal Picture Quality, Stylish
What's not so great: Sound isn't great, limited vertical viewing angle
I've researched a lot of TV's and landed on the PN64F8500 plasma due to it's sterling reputation as being the last reference grade plasma panel ever made. I had a 50" 720p Panasonic Plasma from about 8 years ago that also looked good, so I was worried about whether I'd notice a meaningful difference on this TV considering the price.
I was not disappointed. The picture on this TV is AMAZING, it puts my old TV #which was a very highly rated Panasonic in it's day# to shame. If you have an older TV that is only 720p or is a lower grade panel, don't fret and this TV is a very worthy upgrade. I decided to pass on 4k due to lack of available content #which won't change anytime soon#, and the extra cost. With Samsung ending plasma production, get one while you can as the F8500 model will only be available for awhile longer. Eventually 4k OLED will be king, but it will be awhile before the technology has evolved enough to get some of the initial kinks out and where it is affordable. That will be about the time that we start to see more availability of true 4k content #5-7 years#.
Only thing to be aware of is this TV does have a limited vertical viewing angle, it is an ambient light filter that Samsung incorporated to block out excess light in a bright room and to maximize brightness of the display. So if you have it up on a wall and you aren't back far enough, the picture will appear dark. You may need to tilt the screen downwards so that you are within the ideal viewing angle, or move your seat back farther. I have mine mounted above my fireplace and I couldn't move my seat back, so I worked with my installer to install spacers between the mount and the TV so that I can maximize the downward tilt #without spacers the bottom of the TV would hit the wall which limited the downward tilt#. This made a difference, however you may need to play around with the tilt angle until you don't notice it being dark.
I do wish Samsung worked with Yahoo, NFL and ESPN to create Fantasy Football apps for their Samsung app store. It would be nice to be able to have an overlay at the bottom of the screen with your players, stats and scores while you watch the game rather than have to look at your phone or laptop. Hopefully they can incorporate some meaningful feature like this in the future.
Other features like voice and motion control I didn't feel were valuable so I turned them off.
I really like my TV and am very satisfied with my purchase. There is a reason this TV won so many awards and even won the 2013 Value Electronics HDTV Shootout over the highly acclaimed Panasonic VT60/ZT60 series plasmas.
One thing to be aware is that it does only have 1 component connection, which is an issue as I have a launch Xbox 360 which uses component #instead of newer ones that use HDMI#, as well as a Wii that also uses component. For my setup I can get an HDMI converter for my Wii so that should suffice.

4" = $700.00?? I could understand if I could add 4" to anything I wanted...

Why is it that to get the larger, 64" screen, it costs an additonal $700.00 extra versus the 60" version of this TV?
I also noticed the extra cost and was seriously contemplating getting the 60". In the end I decided I may as well get the biggest panel I can get, as I plan on using this TV for close to 10 years until 4k OLED becomes a viable option and there is ample availability of true 4k content.

So if you will use it for 5 years or so before upgrading again, I'd say you may as well save the money and get the 60". If you plan on keeping an using it for a long time (you don't upgrade very often), then I'd say it may be worth spending the extra money for the larger screen. I personally am satisfied I went with the 64" version instead of the 60". The TV is a BEAST.
