What's great about it: Excellent noise-cancelling, great sound, comfortable fit
What's not so great: Placement of noise-cancelling unit on cord
Let me preface this review by saying that it took me weeks to decide whether to purchase these. I had a pair of QC15's that I stupidly left on a train while traveling in Germany. My loss claim with the railroad fell on deaf ears.
So I needed a replacement unit. While I loved the comfort and "silence" of the QC15's, I was put off by the bulk of the unit overall. I saw the ads for the QC20i's and dismissed "in-ear" headphones as a good alternative for noise-cancelling. Eventually I broke down and got a pair after reading other positive reviews.
I don't know how Bose did it, but these are, hands down, the best "in-ear" headphones I've ever owned! And the noise-cancelling is as good as, if not better than, what I experienced with the QC15's. I have not needed to change the "Stay Hear" earplugs as they were a perfect fit for me right out of the box.
I like deep bass, good mid-tones and slightly accented highs. The QC20i's deliver on all three levels. The "aware" mode allows me to be present when I want to. The built-in controls for iPhone are a breeze to use with excellent sound quality when making calls or dictating texts.
I heartily recommend these headphones, especially for travelers looking for a lightweight noise-cancelling solution. I will be interested to see how Bose further develops them. My only "gripe" is with the cord & plug for iPhone. I wish Bose had made it slightly longer with a straight, instead of angled, plug. Other than than, I'm very grateful that Bose packed so much noise-cancelling power into a lightweight and well-designed set of "in-ear" headphones!

do these come recharged?

The noise-cancelling unit carries an initial charge, but it is wise to do a full charge (by connecting the micro-USB to a computer or other power outlet) BEFORE taking them on the road. A initial full charge takes about 2 hours.
