I wouldn't recommend this product unless you have to have voice services. There are so many options on the modem that doesn't work and the firmware is extremely buggy. It has an option for DDNS, but it doesn't work. It even says when you click on it "This page not supported yet". That's been the same message on this modem for years and it probably won't change anytime soon if at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm not very happy with this product from ASUS. It was released WAY to prematurely. It seriously needs some updated firmware to resolve the issues it has. 5Ghz doesn't work half the time, and 2.4Ghz is awefully slow on this. I would highly recommend not releasing anything like this in the future unless you want to totally ruin your rep.
I do NOT recommend this product as of right now to anyone, and will update this review when they have fixed the many bugs on this device.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'm a very experienced cyber defense specialist. I have been using and testing many different types of routers for many years. This router is by far the biggest disappointment from Linksys I've seen yet. Since Belkin bought out Linksys (notice that none of their products say Cisco anymore) they have been declining to the bottom just like the Belkin routers. If you plan on spending $300 for a router, you obviously want to customize it the way you want it. The Double 5Ghz band deal it has...don't even think about. Your devices will be searching for DNS all day after a couple hours. That doesn't work properly at all. Also, when you set the security to WEP, the router in some ways locks up and you can't alter any settings. It keeps prompting you to save or discard changes, and no matter what you do at this point, your hosed. This router has gone offline and froze up to many times to count over the past few days. I thought it was a defective router at first, but after an exchange....I see that it wasn't. My advice, don't buy this. I would recommend proven technology like the Asus AC1900.

What are the product differences between the RT-AC87R and the RT-AC87U?

Also, I would like to know the differences between the RT-AC87U and the RT-AC3200

Absolutely nothing. The R is Best Buy branded along with some other retailers, and the U is just the universal. The firmware for both devices are the exact same thing minus the letter.
