can easily breathe new life into those older machines. since there are no moving parts it will surely extend battery life in laptops. i have one of these installed in parents machine and running win 10 with no issues at all. i also have another on a ubuntu machine with ver, 16.04 LTS. WOW 15 seconds from cold start to internet.. ok to be honest i think it may be faster as the monitor is still in warm up and desktop is there. no modification of ubuntu required. i think it is safe to say the days of spinning rust are over .. next build will have a 480gb SSD..

was gonna do the tv to PC thing with hdmi. then saw this on sale for $99.00 saved me by half. TV would not have worked out anyways. too big no space. things that are noteworthy: NO DVI cable in my box, it was a sealed box. so you might need one. CAN NOT be wall or stand mounted, lack of vesa mounting holes in back will confirm this. D-sub and HDMI cable ARE included. monitor is thin and should be handled with some degree of care as all things these days if you drop it its probably gonna break.. the picture is clear and crisp with HDMI cable. screen is responsive and does not seem to lag. i use this on a linux box so what you get on a windows box may differ greatly. minus 1 due to no DVI cable. get one while the sale lasts !!!

purchased and tried for about a week had some issues with dual booting but it is FAST.. i dont know about windows but in ubuntu you do not even goto a startup screen.. yes it is that fast. however.. i wanted to do a dual boot and windows from another drive saw this as a usb device and the only way to load ubuntu in same system was via bios select. hmm look in leaflet in box and could not find a resolution. searched online this A.M. and got a virtual busy signal.. website would not load. i am guessing it may have been a jumper setting.. who knows at this point.. would i recommend it .. yes but samsung needs to fix their support site first..

What's great about it: not much
What's not so great: price for outdated technology
tried didnt like it returned then i found this me-180a-a1-wh-rt google it has twice the cpu same memory not as much ram but nearly $80 less. for near $300 this should have a quad core cpu and 32 gb of memory. made for a wicked tv remote though..

Is this capable of HDMI visuals through the vga input?
Using the same vga cable and same laptop, i've gotten 1280x1024 resolution on a large tv, and HD resolution on a previous acer monitor. Is this monitor capable of HD through the vga input?
there is a HDMI port already on this. no need to put extra adapters on unless you do not have a HDMI compatible card.

Power Supply
Is this monitor also compatible with a 240v/60Hz power supply. E.g 110-240/50-60Hz.
YES included is a full range, 110/240 50/60hz small brick style power adapter . meaning it can be used about anywhere. the primary supply cord is a gateway/acer mickey mouse ears type plug. many PC shops know what this is. should not be a problem.

WD - My Cloud 3TB External Hard Drive (NAS) - White
This 3TB WD My Cloud external network-attached storage device's Gigabit Ethernet interface allows connection to your existing network, so you can easily store and access files with compatible PC, Mac, mobile phones and tablets from anywhere in your home.
Can I backup MyCloud to an Off-site Hard drive or MyCloud?
Planning for an NAS at the office but I want a redundant Backup at an offsite location. Not able to use a cloud storage/backup service like DropBox or CrashPlan at this time
have a look at FREE NAS.. it is a freebsd based storage system that you have to build yourself.. if you have an extra pc sitting as a dust piece why not repurpose it.. i would also recommend using western digital red or purple label drives.. as these are made for high endurance and high loads.. its flexibility is unrivaled for free vs buying a premade NAS system from a store. most builds can be done around the $500-750 range. depending on what you have available..
