This is a fantastic device and easy to use. Excellent if you are in the Apple ecosystem, iTunes, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, etc. picture quality and sound is excellent, remote is simple (and easy to replace should you lose it--either buying a new one or using your iOS device). I own 2 of these and love them. I love the AirPlay feature that enables you to mirror your MacBook or iOS device to your TV screen. My only criticism of this is that it's showing its age. Apple has not updated their device in several years and their competitors are making much better, more open products. Most of my digital media with Apple is music and television series, I prefer my movies on physical media and/or UltraViolet digital copies (which AppleTV doesn't support). I still highly recommend this if you're big into Apple products and iTunes. And the AirPlay feature is pretty awesome. But if you're digital content is more spread out among other services, I would look into other streaming boxes or purchasing both.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Roku 3: Access more than 1,500 channels in up to 1080p and view videos from Netflix and YouTube directly on your TV. Fast, powerful and loaded with features, the motion-sensing remote lets you play games or plug in headphones to watch late-night flicks without waking up the household.

Can I stream a movie from a DVD in my computer to the TV with my Roku 3? I would like to avoid having a DVD player.

I am trying to find out if I play a movie on my computer if I can stream that to the TV through the Roku 3 and not have to have any wires to the TV
Not natively, but you may be able to with the Plex channel and program on your computer. While I haven't personally tried this method, I have heard it can be glitchy and can sometimes become unsupported with program updates. I am a big advocate for UltraViolet services that allow disc-to-digital redemption. There is a service that only charges $1 to get a digital copy from a DVD or Blu-ray if you redeem 10 titles or more. UltraViolet is sort of complex at first, creating different accounts and linking them together, but Roku has a few channels that can play your UV library. Most DVDs and Blu-rays have redemption codes for UV copies these days.

Hdmi cable

Will I need an HDMI cable with the Roku 3?
Yes, you will need an HDMI cable. Also recommended, but not necessary, is a 2GB Micro SD card for channel information and game storage. Roku 3 does not download media to the card, it only streams. You can also use a USB stick with Roku 3 to view downloaded videos, photos, and music. I currently use 32GB and 64GB USB sticks and have had no problems accessing content.
