I bought this TV on sale for 399.00 which is an excellent price for that size screen.
I could not find this TV on display so the purchase was a roll of the dice although, I was encouraged by the high ratings with so many reviews.
The TV arrived today in good condition and they hauled off my old TV which saved me a few bucks.
The first thing I noticed was the weight. This thing weighs a ton. I have a 55 LG in my living room and it is feather light. This RCA could anchor the Queen Mary.
I attached the base which is made from heavy glass and hooked it all up. The remote is large, awkward and goofy. It feels cheaply made and well, awkward.
I ran through the initial set up and then started fine tuning the picture and sound.
1st the sound. The TV sounds tinny out of the box but there is plenty of adjustment and there is even a small equalizer to help the sound further. If you are not going to use a sound bar then this sound is solidly above average with some fiddling.
Sadly, the same can't be said about the picture. This TV does not come from the same RCA that once was once amongst the best manufacturers.
The picture has a washed out type of look. The colors are not sharp nor are they vivid. Fine tuning showed little improvement. There is a serious aliasing problem on curved lines similar to what you would get from a video card circa 1998.
Overall the picture is not much better than an old cathode TV.
The 32" LG that this replaced blew this RCA out of the water. I will be returning this TV tomorrow.
The price for the size gives this TV great value as a starter/entry level TV but folks who have had quality HDTV's will be disappointed.
If you intend to buy this TV do yourself a favor and save up a little more and buy a better TV.
Pros: Lowest price of any 55". Great entry level/guest bedroom TV.
Cons: Heavy. Picture is not good.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
