Let me start with, I didn't purchase the laptop I received it as a gift but it came from Best Buy. Within my 3rd power on I notice my brand new Alienware takes about 5 minutes to boot which in this price range is beyond unacceptable. Upon calling Alienware/Dell support a tech got in my computer and pocked around deleted some drivers add some stuff rely on some 3rd party software to diagnose downloaded from websites I would never even visit, without even hash verification. All things considered he fixed my issue only to find out soon as I hang up that all my windows 10 apps don’t work anymore. Called couple days later since 2 hours on the phone just drained me and…. my nightmare began. First guy was clueless he was reading for 30 minutes then started to force me to register my laptop with Dell. For most of you that might not be a problem but I value my privacy and why wouldn’t I? Why should I be held hostage over personal choice? I called total of 4 times I was refused support even by a manager! At the very last call I was told the only way I can fix my issue is to re-install windows but they will not send me recovery flash drive because I didn’t register my laptop which I had for a total of 1 week at that time . I was also threaten if I don’t register my product my warranty will be voided all together!
The laptop looks great and for most users fast enough. But before you buy it consider next few things: Yes, 4k is awesome but legacy parts of windows are impossible to see! NOT ALL SSD ARE EQUAL! The solid state drive that comes with this model is one of the slowest M.2 drives you can find on the market! 8GB of memory is what you would expect from a notebook in much lower price point. There are only 2 memory slots which make memory upgrade very limited and costly! Worst of all there is absolutely no color representation accuracy at ALL! Colors are so exaggerated and I am yet to find a way to calibrate it in windows 10

What's great about it: thin, good stand, low power consumption, great look, good picture
What's not so great: Bad glare, no HDMI, IPS but not perfect, impossible to clean ever
This is not a bad monitor at all but when you read the specs you kind of expect more. Dissent viewing angle but my 6 years old Samsung LCD is actually better. The gloss glass looks amazing but it has horrific glare and is NOT possible to clean it ever, if you get a finger print or anything on that glass it is to stay there. Even though the lack of HDMI does not bother me at the moment keep in mind in a year or 2 there will be no video cards made with DVI or anything but HDMI. I like the monitor but at this price point I really expected to have excellent monitor , not just ok.
This product has... Attractive design, Difficult to adjust/use buttons
About me... Computer technology challenged, Photo/video enthusiast, Technology guru/developer, Gamer
I would recommend this to a friend!

DVI cable fit problem
bought a Dell s2340M. Tried two quality DVI-D cables. None fit because the curved plastic back interferes with the cable DVI connector. What cable can I get that has a short enough DVI connector to fit this monitor?
I have a standard DVI cable and it fits just fine, however you have to push it some it does not go easy but it does just fine. Do not try to tread the cable thru the cable holder that is only made for your power cable so it doesn't disconnect when tilting.

How many power(watts) does it use?
19W according to spec sheet. but at my current setting the wall socket meter shows 16.3W

No it does not have sound but it's very thin monitor

Since this is advertised as HDMI, what kind of a cable do I need to hook this up to my laptop?
There is not an HDMI outlet on the monitor.
There is no HDMI option on this monitor! there is VGA and DVI only!

This monitor blacks out here and there.
I just bought this monitor and love it but, for some reason, it will black out for a second a couple times a day. Any reason for that?
check cables, the DVI cable is not very easy to plug in on this monitor make sure is tight up firmly. But that issue could be traced back to just about anything, the monitor itself, the video card, drivers, est.

No unless you have a special adapter
