What's great about it: High-current amplification, delivers powerful sound
What's not so great: I found it difficult to reach the advanced features on the on-screen UI. I liked the UI on the Marantz receivers better
I'm using this receiver with three Sierra Horizon speakers across the front, and the sound is amazing! Although, it took me a while to get it to sound right. Actually, when I first turned it on and did the automatic MCACC calibration, I wasn't too happy with the results. It sounded like all the sound-detail that I was expecting to hear was gone. Then, after trying a lot of different configurations, I realized that when using high-end speakers, you should turn off all sound enhancements because it actually filters out the fine details you expect to hear through high-end speakers.
Also, another problem I had with the MCACC calibration was that it was attempting to make all my speakers produce a similar sound quality... which meant that it ended up trying to make my high-end front speakers sound like my cheaper rear-channel speakers. I had to dig deep in the UI to find out how to set up the EQ for each speaker independently of all others... after doing this, the receiver blew me away with how much power and clarity it can deliver! I'm super happy with my sound setup, and am not looking back. Actually, I'm glad I didn't buy a more expensive receiver with additional DSP features because I wouldn't have used them. All I needed was a high-current amplifier with some EQ calibration, and the SC-71 delivered that brilliantly!
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Interfaces well with TV, Good multi-zone capability
About me... practical, Audiophile, Tech savvy
I would recommend this to a friend!

This receiver creates layers of stunning sound for an improved audio experience when listening to music or enjoying a movie.

does this have bass/treble control?

Yes it does! The receiver is network-enabled, and you can download an iPhone/Android app that lets you control and adjust the receiver. One of the app features lets you use your finger to draw the full EQ curve, or you can swipe up or down at a given frequency to adjust it.
