I am a drummer and initially purchased these for sound isolation. In this respect, they work fine. I also have a pair of Shure 535 IEM's and in regards to sound isolation, they're almost as good.
It's when I used these for music enjoyment where things got really ugly for me. :-)
To my ears, these seem to push the bass a wee-bit too much for me. I like my headphones to sound somewhat rich, but neutral - I don't like headphones, or speakers that "color" the sound. These headphones seem to have this OOOM kind of bass tone. Not sure if it's how they're "tuned", or if it's the fact that they're a closed-back design (these are the only closed-back cans I have).
I also do not like the coiled cable, which inevitably ends up getting tangled. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD590's that I use for music enjoyment which has a straight cable that also disconnects (nice feature).
On the plus side, these phones are really efficient (you don't have to crank your source) - I have used them with a portable MP3 player and a portable DVD player with NO issues.
IMO, these would work fine for a gamer, or movie watchers (who don't want to disturb other people, or for music lovers who want a "fun" headphone (ie lots of bass, etc.). I wouldn't recommend these for audiophiles, or any critical listening, which is ironic, because when I purchased these years ago, I think they were touted as "professional studio/recording" phones.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have had my Roku 2 for around three months now and have had no problems with it.
Installation and set-up was easy - simply hook up the power cord and a/v cable and follow the prompts on your TV. I think I was up and running in about 20 minutes.
I have read some reviews of people freaking out that it asked for credit card information - some said they even wrapped the unit back up and returned it. This request is simply if you wish to purchase shows, etc. down the line so you don't have to keep entering the information over and over again. I am already a member of an on-line service, so I don't intend on purchasing anything more, but I have had NO problems with unauthorized purchases on my card, or with any solicitations.
In terms of the unit's permformace, it worked flawlessly in regards to audio and video, in fact the video looked surprisingly good considering I have an old 55" rear projection TV. At first, the unit got hung up a few times for a few seconds while watching various movies. At that time, I thought it MIGHT have something with the unit, but it happened so infrequently, it still wasn't even a big deal. As it turns out, it was actually the speed of my DSL. I upgraded my service a couple of months ago and have had no such issues since, so I can only conclude it had nothing to do with the Roku unit.
I'm now considering buying another model for our smart TV.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is it worth upgrading if my TV has no HDMI?

I currently have a ROKU XDS. My TV is "enhanced definition", it has no HDMI connection. Right now, I'm using the component hookup for the Roku. It appears that, with the Roku 2, I would only have composite. I'm concerned about degradation of picture quality. However, on the XDS I can't get some that only work with the newer models.
Has anyone else upgraded from the XDS to Roku 2? How is the picture quality?
I have an older (10 years) 55" rear projection TV and the Roku 2.
I am pleased with the audio and video performace when viewing content from an on-line streaming service. Obviously the audio and video is not "state of the art", but at no time have I ever thought that I should upgrade my TV, or stereo. There are audio and video issues when viewing content from say, YouTube, but that has to do with the source material that YouTube has posted, rather than the Roku player itself.
