How long can clothes be soaked?

Can I soak clothes for as long as I want; overnight, while I am at work, etc.?
No, it will drain and shut off after a 30 minute soak. I was disappointed to find this out since one of the reasons I wanted a top-load washer was so I could soak towels for an extended period of time.

Just got one and it took 1hr14 minute and there were only 6 towls in the washer

I have had nothing but problems with it, and I have tried to get LG to replace it. I wrote a review about my issues, but I have found it takes hours to do a load of laundry because it is constantly unbalanced and drains and tries to re-balance repeatedly!
