I love this switch. It is been running for a few years and is rock solid. It does not get turned off and does not require restarting constantly like others. I would totally recommend this as a good small switch for you network.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is this switch compatible with Cat 6 cables? It says cat 5, I just don't know if that means cat 5 or higher or cat 5 only.

Can I take ethernet wire from my modem run it to the back of the switch then take another wire and hook my axis point to it without using ports on my route

Well this really depends. If your modem and your router are the same device, then you are essentially adding additional wired ports. so I am unsure where you router is plugged in. I have this plugged into my modem. The have two routers plugged into this. Thus creating two separate networks.
