What's great about it: Superb upper end midrange frequencies
What's not so great: Rest of the frequency spectrum was below average.
You have to give it to Bose, what makes Bose systems sound nice is there concentration on producing superior upper midrange frequencies...that's it, though. Everything else is below average, sad really. But that is Bose, trick the ear on a few superior frequencies and add $$$ to the tag. The set up is pretty simple and audio is brought into the system through a 1/8 audio jack (provided). The system comes with a separate audio pad with a touch sensitive mute bottom on top. I like this feature, for I put my speakers out of reach. The separate audio pad lets me control everything remotely (wired). The sound that comes through is some what special. Like I said before a few frequency levels are superb, but the rest is below average. The result is crisp highs fighting through a muted and echoed midrange and base frequencies. It really just sounds a little better than $70 Logitech computer speakers. My recommendation, save your money and buy another brand for under $100. Unless you like jazz or have a big ego...like me, so I'm keeping them. :D

What's great about it: Good base
What's not so great: Sound qaulity is very poor
The sound quality is very poor. Sounds like tiny speakers playing through a coffee can. After I tweaked the sound for sometime, it sounded a little bit better, but not enough to justify the price that I paid for it. The sub-woofer did produce good base, and I was impressed with how easy the blue-tooth connected to my devices. It's just the sound quality is very poor. I returned it and bought a Sony sound bar instead.

frequency response / watts per channel / THD ?

What is the watts per channel / frequency response and total harmonic distortion values on these speakers?
I searched everything that Bose gave me with my Companion20s. Nothing was stated. I used to own a custom speaker manufacturing company years ago. I can give you my opinion and guesses only. Sorry, but just trying to help. The wattage may be only 50 watts. Frequency response sounds like it starts around 40HZ and goes up to 21,000HZ (I used Bose tweeters in my systems and that's how I know how high they go). THD for my 40 year old ears, I really heard no noise at full volume. Pretty impressive for computer speakers. I hope this helps.

Power pack noise?

Recently bought these and really like the sound but power block makes a humming/whining noise. Very quiet but louder when muted on control pod and I am wondering whether this is meant to happen/normal? I would have thought for the money it would be silent.
Nope, not suppose to happen. You may have grounding wire issues in you house or office. Dangerous.
Or transformer is bad, then return it back to Bose.

Connect TV to this speaker

Is it possible to connect my TV with just optical digital output to this speaker. Do I need to buy a converter for this. If so, please let me know the details.
A 3.5mm (1/8) jack it only takes.

Can you connect these to a sound card?

I have a very nice sound card that I want to use if I buy these speakers. BUT, it does NOT have a USB port on the card. Can I get some kind of adapter so I can use these with my sound card?
Only input the Bose has is a 1/8 audio jack, that's it. It does provide you one cable with male ends on both ends.
