Recordings at 1080p 60fps have a slight but noticeable pause (or skip) every 10 seconds, very similar to low quality Streaming video like HBONow or Showtime. If you can tolerate this, I would say this unit is O.K. But there also seems to be other problems with settings. For example, if I set it to 16 Mbps Maximum Video Quality, it will still only record at 14-15 Mbps -- which is the same as Hauppuage HD PVR 2, which works much better and recommend.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have had this for over a year and still amazed with all the things it can do
If I ever get another Smart TV, it will definitely be Samsung. My only complaint: I wish it had more than 2 HDMI Inputs

This receiver does a nice job if you are not looking to blow the doors down, and I am especially happy with 40% Discount over the Holidays.(at Retail Price I probably would have gotten a different brand). Basic setup is simple, but beyond that you need to download and spend some time reading the full operating manual -- 269 pages! -- for all the different modes and setup options Also, I would be impossible to operate this without placing near your TV for On Screen Display.(which may be common these days). This Receiver is not good choice If you are looking for a "stand alone" stereo to listen to music only,

7.1 set-up
The owners' manual gives two options for 7.1 speaker set-up: surround back and front high.Which set-up is going to give me the most sound from most DVD's? Does SONY have a chart listing the the advantages for each set-up. The owners' manual leaves it to me to guess which set-up to choose. I want the best overall sound without having to put unnecessary screw holes in my walls.
Recommend you download the full, 269 Page Operating Manual. (just Google the Model number). I still trying to decipher all the different speaker arrangements and sound options. I just bought more speakers and plan to spend a couple days experimenting.
