What's great about it: 16mp, 10x zoom, movie mode
What's not so great: audio
Upgraded to the Nikon Coolpix S6200 16mp 10x zoom from a Casio Exilim EX-Z120 7.2mp 3x zoom. Nothing wrong with the old camera. The Casio has an added viewfinder and uses regular AA batteries which you can get anywhere and always have on hand - which I like. The Nikon is only slightly smaller than the Casio. Would have liked it even smaller. What the Casio doesn’t have is a movie mode like the Nikon S6200. Movie mode records in .MOV. There’s only 74MB internal mode and you’ll only get about 1 min. 14 sec. in movie mode on that. You’ll want to get an SD card. If you get an SD card, it will only record photos and videos on the card and not on the internal free space. When making movies, you will hear the zoom. Audio is also low. According to the Nikon manual, “The maximum file size for a single movie is 4GB and the maximum movie length for a single movie is 29 mins.,” even when there is more free space on the card. Unless you plan on making your photos into posters, you really don’t need 16mp and it takes up a lot of space. Using 12mp is just as good. Forget the software that comes with it. I don’t know why they feel the need to include it. Just connect with the supplied cable to you laptop or other device and look at your photos and movies that way. It’s not fair to compare the two cameras, but I can tell you it definitely has a good flash mode compared to what I’ve been using. It comes with an external wall charger. Charge for 3+ hours out of the box. You connect the cable underneath the camera. This is a terrible place to stick it. They should move it to the side. Overall I’m happy with my purchase . . . of course I just received it. Fortunately I got this for $99 on the Best Buy July Black Friday deal.
