The Dell XPS 14 strikes the just right balance between performance and mobility. With a 14.5" "infinity panel" OLED touch screen, the user interface is not lacking. The height of this laptop is a mere 18 mm (that's approximately 0.7" for us SAE unit folks), and the weight comes in around 3.7 pounds. As for more detailed technical specs, the XPS 14 is powered by an Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 Processor 155H (24MB Cache, 16 cores, up to 4.8 GHz), Intel Evo Edition, Intel® Arc™ graphics, 32GB of DDR5 memory, and sports a Samsung PM9A12 1TB NVMe Gen4 SSD (that's 32 Gbps per lane x4 lanes). So although this laptop is small and light, it has some serious capabilities under the hood.
There are some noteworthy features on the XPS 14. The trackpad is invisible, but it is also very intuitive since it is in the usual location for a trackpad - underneath the space bar on the keyboard. Dell describes it as a "seamless glass touchpad with haptics". Aesthetically, this is a really nice look. The usual row of function keys (F1 through F12) is a touch-sensitive area above the keyboard. By hitting the function key on the keyboard, that touch sensitive area toggles between the function keys and system keys such as volume control, screen brightness, etc. The XPS 14 has a 1080p, 30 fps FHD RGB-IR camera, which allows for facial recognition to unlock the system via Windows Hello. The keyboard has a dedicated Windows Copilot Key to wake up and unleash the AI Genie inside of the Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 Processor.
Battery life is "up to 21 hours" with FHD+, although I have not had the laptop up and running long enough to test that claim. What I can say is that this is probably the most capable laptop I've every had, and the form-factor is incredibly attractive. Performance is stellar, so what's not to like? Maybe having a 2TB NVMe SSD would make it a bit more desirable, but I won't complain about that.
If you are looking into a new laptop for yourself, or possibly for a student in high school or college, give the Dell XPS 14 a look. It's a machine that should give many years of solid performance with a relatively small form-factor.

Everyone knows Ring. They produced the first doorbell camera and have been successful ever since (now owned by Amazon). But the Battery Doorbell Pro addresses a few of the gaps in their prior products. One is that it is now battery powered, which enables installations where the traditional doorbell transformer is not available, but it can be hardwired to an existing 8-24 VAC transformer if available. Another feature is adding better quality images when lighting is not exactly the best - in HDR color to boot. Yet another, and probably my favorite, is that you can now map zones so that you're only notified when something happens in that area (eliminates nuisance alerts for cars going down the road, etc.). The app also allows you to look at your property with "a bird's eye view" so that you can see how someone approached your property and/or front door. The doorbell also seamlessly integrates into other devices, which can make up your home security system. It supports dual band WiFi, and works with Alexa and IFTTT. Of course, being an Amazon product it doesn't support Google Assistant or HomeKit. It requires a subscription to view recorded video, and some features require you to have a paid subscription with Ring. Lastly, a microUSB port is used which is unusual these days given the pervasiness of USB-C for device charging and power needs.
All in all, it is a great smart doorbell. While not perfect, I view it as a very strong good enough solution.

My last drone was a DJI Phantom 4, and I’d resisted the trend toward smaller drones, but finally took the plunge with the DJI Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo Plus Drone and RC 2 Remote Controller. Out of the box, you have everything that you need to fly short of charging the batteries, updating the firmware (I had firmware updates for both the drone and the controller), creating your DJI account (I already had one) and signing in to your account via the controller. The controller then binds the drone to the controller, and you’re ready to go. Normally I take photos of anything that is remotely complicated, but there weren’t any! The only thing not included that you may want to add is a microSDXC card with UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) and UHS Video Speed Class 30 (V30) for 4K UHD capabilities. The drone has onboard memory for recording, so it isn’t necessary, but I prefer keeping photos or videos on a removable media.
The package comes with a DJI RC 2 (integrated display, so no more fumbling with a phone or tablet), the Mini 4, 3 Intelligent Flight batteries (one installed in the drone), a charging hub which will serially charge up to three batteries, and a very convenient shoulder bag which accommodates everything I just mentioned and is made from a nice grade of ballistic nylon.
HUGE capabilities on the Mini 4. An f/1.7 aperture delivering 48MP still photos, and 4K/60fps or 4K/100fps slow motion (with support of D-Log M/HLG for amazing dynamic range). It supports a feature that DJI calls “MasterShots” where the subject is maintained at the center of the imaging while the drone maneuvers (try doing that by hand – it’s virtually impossible for most of us!).
DJI states that the controller and drone can maintain connectivity out to 20km – that’s over 12 miles. I didn’t push it on my first test flight, I just went out about a half mile, but I had a great view of what the drone was seeing from the controller. DJI also specs omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, but I have not tried that other than during a landing attempt onto a surface on our deck, which it was persistently unwilling to do, so I’d have to say that feature gets a check mark.
In summary, this is an amazingly capable drone for its price-point. I recommend it without hesitation for someone who wants a very capable drone that falls into the higher-end consumer market.

iRobot has excellent expertise in product packaging and in creating an excellent out of the box experience for its customers. I received a “box in a box” – a shipping box that contained the actual product box. Once I removed the product box and opened it up, I was very impressed. Packaging is optimized for the Roomba’s form-factor. The robot it in the very bottom of the box sitting on a plastic piece which rests on the base. Above that is an accessory box containing the power cord, and a spare filter and edge brush. Putting that box aside, I removed the Roomba j9+ vacuum from the box, and the removed the base. Removing the protective thing foam wrap from the base was the most challenging task in getting things going. It’s really that simple. I plugged-in the base to our electrical outlet, placed the Roomba j9+ on the base and began the installation using the iRobot app on my iPhone. That process was simple, but there was one glitch – more on that later. The Roomba j9+ connected to my iPhone, and then ultimately to our home WiFi. From there, I was notified via the app that a firmware update was needed. Things got really slow there, and after I waited for over 15 minutes, I closed the app and later reopened it, and viola, things had been installed and the Roomba j9+ was in my list of products (I’m moving the j7+ I had downstairs upstairs, to replace the Roomba i7+ we were using). When I replaced past products, I had to retrain the new product and create rooms, keep out zones, etc. Now, I was able to adopt the training from the prior have vacuum – that’s a great feature and saves a lot of time and hassle!
Some features on this vacuum include a stronger suction than the vacuum we were using downstairs. We have three fur babies in the home, so getting the fur up off the carpet and hardwood flooring is a big deal for us. This model has the ability (somehow) to gauge the dirtiest areas of the home and prioritize them, adjust the suction for a particular area, and change the number of cleaning passes. Like our previous Roombas of recent vintage, the vision system allows the vacuum to steer around objects – like our fur babies’ toys. After the cleaning is done, the Roomba j9+ will empty its bin into a larger disposable bag located in the base. These disposable bags are large enough to hold a couple of months’ worth of dirt, fur, etc. and emptying the base every couple of months is very simple. The Roomba also can integrate with Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant-enabled devices, but we don’t use that feature. I have a schedule in the app, and it runs when I want it to. I have it running now, and I have to say that I’m surprised how quiet it is in comparison to our Roomba j7+. I can hear the strength of the suction varying as the Roomba goes from carpet to our hardwood flooring and vice-versa. iRobot has an almost comical feature called P.O.O.P. (Pet Owner Official Promise) that means the Roomba j9+ will steer clear of pet waste (and in the event it doesn’t, iRobot will replace the robot for free). Living in the Pacific NW, we use “pee pads” inside. I wish the robot firmware would detect the pads and steer clear of them, but alas it does not. I’ll likely just create an exclusion zone where I place them and call it done.
I’m looking forward to seeing our Roomba j9+ perform over the coming weeks. Our j7+ served us well, and will continue to do so upstairs, but the j9+ will take over cleaning our primary living space.

Pros include: relatively low cost, relatively small size, and the rated two year battery life.
Cons include: None yet.
I did some research prior to getting this camera, and found that it is largely viewed to be the best camera in what I’ll term the “value camera segment”. It comes with two 3AAA lithium batteries which are supposed to last for about two years. As you’d expect, that will vary depending on your specific usage and the environment that the camera operates in.
Setup is straightforward, just download the app and power up the blink sync module 2. The app will connect via Bluetooth and then proceed to ask you for your preferred WiFi SSID and password, and the app will pass that onto the blink sync module 2 and you are halfway home. Adding the camera is equally straightforward – if you read the directions. When you insert the batteries into the camera, note that (spoiler alert) the QR code for the camera serial number is on the internal camera body behind the cover that is removed for battery installation. So don’t do as I did and install the batteries and reinstall the back cover without adding the camera before doing so.
Mount the camera, and if you’re interested in using the motion sensing capabilities of the camera, you take a photo and select in an 8 x 8 grid where you want the motion sensing to look, and the other parts of the grid are excluded for motion sensing. Pretty cool way to go about it.

Large. That’s the first thing that came to mind when I unboxed this beast. Light. That was the second thing that came to mind as I lifted it out of the box. Powerful. That was the third thing that came to mind when I powered it up and began the Windows 11 installation and configuration. But let’s start from the beginning.
When I opened the box, it was apparent that a lot of thought had been put into protecting the product during shipping. The entire product is held in the center of the box via closed-cell foam to protect against shock and vibration during shipping. Once I removed it from the box, and removed the foam pieces, I got my first look at the aesthetics. In a word, wow. The 32” screen is huge. Once I powered it on, I got the first real look at the quality of the display. It’s impressive, to say the least (there’s a calibration document inside the box that speaks to the color fidelity). Windows setup was quick, given the processor is a 13th Generation Intel® Core™ i9-13900H (aka Raptor Lake) with 16 GB DDR5 6400 MHz and a blazing-fast 512GB PCIe4 NVMe SSD. I have WiFi 6E here at home and got excellent speed with the Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX & Bluetooth® 5.1 combo module. Once setup, I had a chance to install a few apps and try things out. I can say that you will not be disappointed with the performance of this machine!
Other items of interest include a 5MP IR/RGB camera with a Dual Array Microphone, along with an electronic shutter to enforce privacy. In terms of I/O, there is (1) HDMI 2.1 output, (2) USB-A 3.2 Gen 2,
(1) USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, (1) USB-C 4.0, and a jack for a combination Headphone / mic. Also comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

The "out of the box" experience was outstanding. From opening the box to starting my first cleaning job downstairs in our home was literally less than five minutes. Two pieces install to the base of the unit, and you're ready to go. One of the key features that I really like about this product is its steam mode (Bissell terms is "HydroSteam(tm) Technology"). I have not yet used that mode, but absolutely will be using it soon. I really want a good, deep cleaning of our carpet.
The product comes with two starter (8 ounce) bottles of Clean + Natural formula and Pet Pro Oxy Urine Eliminator formula. We have three miniature long-haired dachshunds, our fur babies, so I started with the Pet Pro Oxy Urine Eliminator formula for the first cleaning. The product is not overly heavy, but not light, either, but it moves easily on our carpet. There is a trigger for dispensing the cleaning solution on the handle loop where your index finger naturally goes, so the ergonomics work well. It is no louder than an upright vacuum cleaner, so it's relatively easy on the ears.
In addition to cleaning carpets, the product comes with 3" and 6" attachments for upholstery and stairs, as well as an 8' hose for using the attachments. I'm not sure I'll ever use them, but we have them if they're needed.
As the title suggests, I'm extremely happy with the product, and can recommend it based on my experience thus far.

Razer’s triforce titanium 50mm drivers deliver great sound. The drivers are unique in that they are divided into three parts for the individual tuning of high, midrange, and low frequencies. These drivers deliver incredible levels of clarity as compared to my previous headset. Additionally, there are sound profiles available for a variety of commonly played games. The headset is noticeably lighter than any other headset I’ve used in the past. They are aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable on the ears/head. The microphone is wideband, which leads to less compression of voice, and a more natural sound. THX spatial audio (7.1 surround sound) is supported by this headset.
Razer Hyperspeed Wireless delivers on low-latency play (Razer says it is less than four milliseconds). They also state that this wireless technology requires less power than competitive offerings, which in theory should lead to longer usage before needing to recharge. Speaking of battery life, Razer says that the headset can deliver up to seventy hours of battery life. I haven’t confirmed that, as I tend to put my headset on charge with its included USB Type-C cable at the end of each day’s use. Razer states that fifteen minutes of charging can yield six hours of play, which is impressive.
I've pointed out the positives, and for the negatives... I haven't found any just yet. The headset delivers on Razer's commitments, and I'm very happy with it.

The Specs… This laptop is well-designed and brings punch to demanding applications with Intel’s 13th Generation Core i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB NVMe SSD (full PCIe 3.0 x 4). Graphics performance is rock solid, as this laptop incorporates an nVidia GeForce RTX 3050 solution. The screen is nice, using an OLED panel that has full HD screen resolution (1920 x 1080).
The experience… The laptop has a nice protective box to keep things safe during shipping. Opening the box, the laptop is wrapped in a nice protective bag, presumably to protect against abrasion of the nice black finish of the aluminum case that the laptop lives within. Powering the laptop on, I got a quick view of the display. It’s one thing to consider the specs, but seeing this display in person gives a whole new appreciation of OLED technology. It’s a beauty!
Laptop setup… Now getting the laptop setup. WiFi is the first thing to configure, and this laptop has 802.11ax, which is commonly known as WiFi 6E. If you have a compatible router, you can expect to retain high speeds more consistently. WiFi 6E made OS and driver updates a snap.
I/O Ports… With the laptop all configured, I took a look at the various ports around the perimeter of the laptop. HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 are supported for external video. I was a little disappointed to see that this laptop doesn’t come with a USB Type C charger. Instead, Asus went with a 4.5 mm DC jack. The brick (charger) indicates that it can deliver 120 Watts of charging power. That said, the documentation states that there are two USB Type C charging ports. In addition to the two USB 4.0 Type C ports, there’s a USB 3.2 Type A port, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. So lot of I/O capabilities with this laptop.
Conclusion… Lots to like about this laptop. Great performance with nice aesthetics as well. As I mentioned, the one mild disappointment was the lack of a USB Type C charger versus the included charger with a 4.5 mm DC jack. But that’s a nit in the scheme of things.

As the title suggests, this is a great trimmer - and a lot more. I was looking for a better trimmer for mustache, eyebrows, gnarly hair in the ears, etc. and I got that plus a whole lot more. This trimmer has about everything you could wish for. One thing I really like about this trimmer is that it retains the various attachments magnetically. Need a different attachment? Pull the one on the trimmer off, and attach the one you need. Very simple! And yes, it does a great job at mustache trimming - the very first thing I tried. There are quite a few combs in the product that allowed me to dial in the trim length that I was looking for. Piece of cake! Then I started exploring other attachments. Some are intended for hair cutting, and honestly I'm not up to doing that myself (I still have a little hair left!), but it also has a dedicated nose and ear trimming attachment. That one I had t try, and I found it to be very effective at its intended job. That's the extent of the attachment experimentation I've done so far.
Another great feature this product has is a stand for charging the trimmer's battery (it comes with a "wall wart" and a USB Type A to Micro (I think) USB cable) and for storing the other attachments. A 3 hour is supposed to yield 4 hours of use. Conair also says that a 20 minute quick charge will provide 40 minutes of use. There's a slick LED battery gauge built into the handle which gives a visual progress indication for charging.
There is one thing I wish that Conair had provided, and that is something to store all of the combs in. The magnetic heads look to be a plastic body housing a metal cutter. It isn't like they will receive a lot of abuse, but for a trimmer at this price point I would have preferred the attachments to be all metal.
This trimmer will do much more than what I bought it for, and I'm happy with how well it works for my specific needs.

The Nest Doorbell is the battery-powered video doorbell that works with any home. See what’s happening at your door from anywhere and get intelligent alerts about important activity, like when there’s a person, package, animal, or vehicle.* And because there are no wires, you can install it yourself. Nest Doorbell requires the Google Home app and a Google Account – it’s not compatible with the Nest app or the home.nest.com site.

Where can I buy a replacement battery? How much does the replacement battery cost?

To the best of my knowledge, this is not a replaceable battery. It's a lithium ion battery that is internal to the doorbell and should be good for thousands of charge/discharge cycles.

What is the max load it will handle? Can it control a window air conditioner (120 V, 12 Amps)

This is a great question that I have not been able to get an answer for. However, from an engineering perspective, we could deduce that since the outlet plugs into a 120VAC 15A-capable outlet, it should be able to handle that same level of current output. So if I were a betting man, I'd say it should support your application.

Does this require a monthly service fee?

Short answer: no. In your home, the device connects to your WiFi. However, you can also sign up for an IFFFT account and control your device from the cloud using a myriad of internet-based data. That account is also free, and one of the reasons I bought the device since it will be located far away from my home.

does it support 220-240v

does this wemo support devices which wok on 220-240v
The outlet is designed to plug into a three-pronged 120VAC 15A style outlet. Its electronics are also powered off the outlet it plugs into, so I don't think I'd try powering off a 220/240VAC source.
