What's great about it: Performance and Cloud Administration
What's not so great: Not a fan of the Retro look
I have installed many home routers in my house and friend's houses. I've been partial to ASUS and the Linksys. This is the first new router from Linksys under Belkin's ownership. I was worried as I never liked Belkin routers, but I decided to take the risk. In my 2 BR condo I realized I have 10 wireless and 4 wired devices. IMO, the router is about as important as your ISP.
Linksys installation could not be easier. You just turn off your old router, plug in the new one. Visit a website and change the name and password. But here's what I really like. After that you are asked to create a Smart WiFi account and your router is added to your account. Now you can administer your router from any browser. You no longer have to be onsite and enter 192.168.1.1.
I have both of my routers tied to my account. I can see what devices are connected.
On the performance side, I am getting "Excellent" signal strength on the same floor and the floor below on both bands. My floor is concrete and I've never had that kind of reach before and my old router is only 2 years old. Was dual band, N. All that good stuff.
Yes, it is pricey as far as routers go. But not that much and it is a great value for the money IMO.

What's great about it: Easy to set up and use
What's not so great: Navigating the DVR is slow
I set up my Slingbox 500 in about 20 minutes. It was a very easy guided setup. If you pay $15 for the iPad or iPhone app you can watch it on your device. You can also watch on a browser. On the browser and iPad my Comcast remote control appears on the screen and I can push the buttons normally. No fault of slingbox, but when you push a button it has to go through your broadband so there is a slight delay for each keypress before you see the screen affected. But once you get your show running the picture quality is really very acceptable.
I use it to watch my Chicago DVR in Phoenix. I have good cable internet on both sides. The 500 is connected over my N wifi. On the Phoenix side I use my iPad app to get my show running, but I watch it using a Roku 3 on my big screen. I would not want to watch the Superbowl this way, but for catching up on sitcoms - perfect.

what steaming media player to buy for the money

I would reduce your thinking to either Apple TV or Roku. It depends on whether you want access to iTunes stuff. I got Roku because it gives me access to my Slingbox, Netflix and Hulu. That's all I was looking for.

It you want access to your own Media content, ignore this advice.

Can I use my lg smart tv to play the streaming channel? (the away person place)is there software for my smart tv? without the need of a laptop/ipad/smARTPHONE ETC...
I haven't seen one. Many TVs have built in Apps, but you will be hard pressed to find one from SlingMedia. If you have their Apple App on an iPad or iPhone you can view the stream through a Roku 3 connected to your big TV. I do that and it works well.

Can you edit the playlist on your dvr with the sling box?

Whatever you can do the remote you can do over the slingbox. But each button press has a delay which would make that kind of operation tedious and frustrating. TIVO and most cable providers let you do this through a browser. That interface tops the remote control.
