Sound great and STAY in my ears while running. They are very comfortable. Seem durable. I am very pleased with this purchase.

What's great about it: Price was great
What's not so great: Not an option if intended to use with Firewire connection on a Mac
I purchased this drive for photo and video backup after an older Western Digital drive had stopped working. Drive was purchased for a decent price (on sale). Packaging includes the drive, power supply, as well as three cables (FW-800, FW-400, and USB 3.0/2.0). The drive works just fine over a USB connection. BUT, I had purchased the drive primarily to use the FW-800 connection (my iMac is older and does NOT support USB 3.0). Initial set-up was flawless. Formatting was simple. All data was transferred to the drive without any problems. But I began to experience a problem whereby I could not write to the drive; the drive could be read, but not written. I went to the G-Tech site and applied the firmware update. I re-started the drive and all seemed fine until the computer would sleep; once awakened, I would start to again experience random problems with trying to write to the drive. The only way that I could write to the drive would be to shut off the drive at the power supply, unplug the FW cable, re-plug the cable, and re-power the drive. It would then be fine for a few hours or even a day, only for the problem to return. A review of the the Internet showed numerous people were having this same problem. I contacted G-Tech support (who, BTW, were quick to reply and did provide step-by-step suggestions to remedy the problem). Unfortunately the advice recommended did not remedy the problem. The final piece of advice that I was provided was to either return the drive to them for replacement or return the drive to Best Buy for a refund. As far as I can tell there are no fixes for the Firewire issues on the Mac platform. Out of curiosity I disconnected the Firewire connection and have been using the drive via USB 2.0 for nearly a month. It has worked fine without problems. Due to the massive amount of data that I have stored on the drive I decided that I would keep it; unfortunately I just can't use it over Firewire as I had intended.
It should also be noted that this drive is "noisy." It has a "clunky" hard drive access sound; it's not something that bothers me, at least not now; but in the beginning it was very noticeable and somewhat bothersome. I must have become accustomed to it, as I barely notice it now (not to mention the fact that it now sits on a small stand under my computer desk).
For the price, design and customer support I would give the drive a 4-5 star review. But since the drive cannot function reliably according to the published Firewire specs I must lower the review to reflect the fact that I am unable to use the drive to suit my needs and to take advantage of the FW-800 speeds (this would become a less of an issue if my computer supported USB 3.0).

What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: Lean on memory
I have used Apple computers for years and have always been pleased with the performance of them. This Mac Mini is used in a medical office; it worked well, but was a little sluggish with the 4GB of memory. I purchased and installed 16GB of RAM (2x8GB) -- it functions very smoothly at this point. The memory installation was very simple and took less than 5 minutes. The computer is paired with a Mac Thunderbolt display and the image clarity is excellent.

Hi, i'm interested in this product, I've two questions.

Do I need a headphone amplifier for Ipod use?
Do you know if there are other products woth similar quialty to compare with?

A headphone amplifier is not needed but I would recommend using one for the HD558. I've played the headphones directly from an iPod and through a Schiit Asgard 2 amplifier (this is not a portable amp); the sound difference is drastically better via the amp. When I travel and not using an amp I will use a pair of V-MODA Crossfade M80's directly out of my iPod -- sounds fantastic. The M80's are a little bass heavy (at least compared to what my ears are accustomed to hearing, but still love the sound and like the relatively small form factor the M80's).
