I liked the first Microsoft Band, but i love this band. So far, it seems to sync better with MyFitnessPal, I love that it now has 4 lines for display of notifications, it's like a bigger screen but it's not bulky. The exercise tracking display is more useful than first band. Not sure about battery life yet, i just got it yesterday and started with a half charge, but it charges quickly i charged it a little before bed and used it for sleep tracking (7-8 hours sleep) and when i woke it still had 88% battery left (I recharged it for today anyway). Sleep tracking is actually usable - the last band was uncomfortable, this i didn't even notice on. The step tracking seems accurate (someone said they had 25% of steps recorded or something like that, but my guess is they were holding onto the handles on the treadmill such as when using treadmill heart rate sensor, anything that holds your wrist steady - as with all of fitness bands on wrist - will result in no vibration in wrist and no/fewer steps recorded-- other activities with these bands that don't record as well include pushing a grocery cart and pushing a lawn mower, anything that holds your wrist steady).

Way back when, I used a BodyBugg to track (no longer supported), then I moved on to Fitbit devices (kept falling out of pocket when I sat) which I used for a year or two, and I tried a fitbit wristband (flex?) but It kept falling off... I tried an up24 but the large size didn't fit comfortably... I've been using up until this point for 6-9 months a Samsung Gear Fit.. I was happy with the gear fit, but it didn't synch with a food database (or any other online database# so I couldn't match my calories burned to what I was taking in.
Now I have the VivoSmart and : 1# It records my steps, converts them to a total daily calorie burn #which gear fit did not do, but fitbits did# 2# It Synchronizes to MyFitnessPal, which has a great food database #if not a ton of ads, which I guess keeps the service free# 3) It stays on my wrist and does not fall off #again, the fitbit devices were difficult in this department) 4) Like the gear fit, this gives me breaking news notifications #from apps), e-mail, text, and I've come to rely on the vibration for incoming calls so I don't miss them #especially if i'm in a noisy place).
What I don't like: 1) It doesn't seem to give me a chart for activity throughout the day like fitbit did, but that was kind of just something pretty to look at and not necessarily useful. 2) Maybe it's just a coincidence, but the first day I owned the device the web service which supports the device was down completely for at least 6 hours. Also The service is still reporting issues with myfitnesspal, though it seems to be working with current data for me.

Great, but some potentnial freezing

Love the cameras
But there was one thing which consistently caused them to freeze (thus requiring a plug/unplug of power to unfreeze).
The steps to make it freeze seems to be: 1. position camera between glass window (looking out) and blinds (closed) 2. Leave outside light on (on timer) 3. Let it get dark out 4. Turn outside light off 5. This then causes (by default) the infrared lights to come on 6. Something about this positioning of the camera with the infrered lights on makes the picture go white. 7. After a few seconds, the camera will no longer stream video until power is pulled and it is rebooted.
The fix for this: go into settings and change infrared (night vision) from auto to off.
There has to be a better fix..
Otherwise, they're great.

What's not so great: Getting it to stand not easy as it could be
It's very thin, sturdy, has kind of a magnetic grip that I like, but I don't like the stand, it's not as easy to just sit it up as you'd hope it would be, making the 'origami' part of it complicated

What's great about it: The display is very clear for reading the time, Camera is cool
What's not so great: Very few features/"apps", not much functionality
It didn't do a whole lot, at the time I purchased it there were I believe something like 5-10 apps. For the money I spent I really expected a lot more out of it.
It did work well as a Bluetooth speakerphone, at the same time it didn't seem easy to figure out how to switch the conversations back to the phone without turning off Bluetooth.
It also worked ok as a camera , but I don't take a ton of pictures.
Probably the coolest feature was that it worked with MyFitnessPal to scan barcodes for entering food into diary.
I'll wait a year or two to see what comes in the future with these things.
