What's great about it: Price point, speed, touch screen responsiveness, and dual batteries
What's not so great: Spotty wireless connectivity, Heavy
Let me start by saying, this is a great buy for the $500 price tag I paid during the Black Friday event (2013). Setup and configuration went very smooth. Windows 8 leaves much to be desired; however, that aside the system is great little machine. My wife loves that this can be a stand alone tablet with a lot of screen real-estate and still have a keyboard when needed. She will be primarily using QuickBooks, but has also been using it for entertainment purposes as well. The processor is not the fastest, but is fast enough for this type of work and play, and frankly, will be faster than anything you've experienced if your machine is more than a couple of years old.
Setup/Configuration:
Windows 8 OS - Steep learning curve for those coming from Windows 7. Wizard setup is easy to follow. Just remember to go ahead and configure your live account credentials for the Windows store. That way you can get Window's updates, as well as other app updates as quickly as possible after opening the box.
Wireless:
The wireless adapter works flawlessly on a standard home network (I have a Linksys#, but the windows 8 driver is not compatible with a Cisco router with all of it's updates. Most folks don't have a cisco router or switch system in their homes, so this isn't too big of a deal, but I frustrated that I couldn't take it work to download updates and make configuration changes throughout the day. Being a software developer, I tried several attempts at new drivers, legacy drivers, configuration changes, etc. with no success, so I have resolved to wait and see if RealTek comes out with an updated driver to fix this.
Performance:
Out of the box, this baby is super fast, because it has an SSD, not because of the 4GB of memory. It is upgradable to 8GB, but 4GB will suffice for most people doing normal work and entertainment activity. I wouldn't recommend this one for video processing, heavy programming, etc. Best of all, the SSD is 128 GB instead of the 64GB, which normally doesn't come with a system at this price point. If you compare this to a Microsoft Surface Pro 2, the HP is a steal, as the Surface pro 128GB version is close to $1000, and doesn't include a keyboard.
Touch Screen/Tablet:
The touch screens are a necessity with Windows 8, but being able to pull it off and take it with you as tablet is tablet is HUGE plus. It is a little big, but it can be good and bad, depending on your need. We love it, since it will be used for work and not complete convenience. The resolution isn't the greatest #1366 x 768), but watching Netflix was still a blast and seemed HD worthy, though it technically is not HD. Since the tablet is really the machine, it has the following: battery, microSD card slot, power port, power button, volume rockers, front-face camera, and Bluetooth.
Keyboard:
The Keyboard has a USB 3.0, 2.0, HDMI, and MultiCard reader which is awesome, since you can have them when you need them, but don't have to tote the keyboard around all the time. One thing that is good and bad is that the keyboard also has a battery! This is good, because the system will use this battery first, then switch over to your tablet.. but it is bad because it adds a lot of extra weight to the machine. This is an easy trade off for the extra battery when you need it.
Overall, the keys are nice and the touch mouse works well. Additionally, the dock mechanism for tablet is very secure and works consistently every time. No snagging, or weakness.. it just works like you'd expect.
Speakers:
I'm not a young buck, but still like for my audio to be a good quality without having to plug in my headphones. So far, the "Beats Audio" speakers built into this machine seem to work well. They sound good, and have a lot of power. The tablet portion has it's own speaker bar, which is even better. This makes watching a movie between two people very pleasant.
Anyway.. Even though I had some wireless issues with this little guy, I'm still impressed and happy with my purchase. Too bad I won't get to use it much, as it was a gift for my wife.
This product is... Good sound quality, A touch pad that works great, Perfect for Business, Big screen size, easy to set up, bulky, lightning fast, dual batteries, great value
About me... Budget Conscious, Technology guru, Business Professional
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can I upgrade the laptop to 8gb ram?

1. Can I upgrade the ram in the hp split 2 in 1 to 8gb ram?
or
2. can the amount of ram be customized when it is bought from best buy?
1. Yes, you can expand the RAM to 8GB on this machine. It is only a single port, so the 4GB chip would be replaced with a single 8GB.
2. Not entirely sure, but there is a good chance that you can ask Best Buy - Geek Squad to upgrade it for you.
