Excellent pointing device. I have used Logitech trackballs for decades. It takes some getting used to pointing with your thumb, but it is far better than the pain in your wrist from using a regular mouse. This trackman has great battery life from a single AA battery. The only difficulty I have ever encountered is if the USB receiver can not "see" the trackball transmitter. In that case I move the USB receiver to another USB jack or to another location with a USB extension cable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

is there a way to remove skin cells from ball contacts

Yes. Just pop the ball out of it's socket with a pencil. Wipe the ball and the ball supports inside the socket off with a soft cloth. Brush off the optics inside the ball socket with a tiny paint brush if needed. If it just seems to get stuck and the pointer jumps around it's probably because the USB receiver can not "see" the trackball. In that case move the receiver to another USB port or move it closer to the trackball with a short USB extension cable.

Is it possible to purchase just the USB receiver if it was misplaced? Thank you!

Yes! The product is called a Logitech Unifying receiver for mouse and keyboard. Much cheaper than having to buy the trackball all over again too. The person who stole my trackball while I was running sound at our last St. Patrick's day gig here in Michigan will need to buy one of these too. Thankfully Best Buy had a new trackball on sale, so it's all good.
