I looked at the OLEDs and though their picture was phenomenal, I couldn't justify the price difference after reading the problems plagued by the OLED. The picture is fantastic with deep blacks and vivid colors. I use the Cinema Home setting. It has an almost calibrated picture right out of the box. This UHD TV was $3299 a year ago and at $1998 now it's darn near a steal.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome picture. Need to sit within 4-7 feet, otherwise picture display loses 4K clarity. Has new X-1 chip that was absent in the 800B. Chip provides better color enhancement. If 3D is important, this is not your TV. But if you're on a budget, IMHOP, this one is worth a look and well worth the price like all Sony's XBR series.

What's great about it: Fast Loading and Excellent HD
What's not so great: Nothing Yet
Bought this blu ray after purchasing a Panasonic 60VT60. Both at Best Buy, and both at outstanding savings. Streaming of apps is excellent, and it took just a few minutes to connect to our wireless internet. Haven't tried the apps connection on the TV yet, so still don't know which one I'll prefer. This unit was rated just under the top brand, but the other brand was double the price and I find it hard to accept it would produce twice the picture quality. My opinion, you can't go wrong buying this quality unit at an affordable price. Extremely happy.

does it play 2d blu-ray in 3d?
No, but high end HDTVs will convert 2D to 3D. Everything I have researched and read by the hd gurus says to avoid this though. Most common side effects-nausea and headaches.

Does this player work for TVs without 3D?
Yes. Your manual explains a 2D setting.

Do the HDMI connections support Audio Return Channel?
I have a TV that has only optical out and I receive programming via "over the air" and need to figure out a way to send the sound to my integrated amplifier (no digital inputs).

Blu ray players aren't designed for pass through. Your TV description is a little too vague for any other suggestions. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
