What's not so great: Ink out way faster than previous printer we owned.
Seems to work fine after we learned through trial & error how to scan and copy. The big problem is going to be the amount of ink it uses. First cartridge had to be replaced after one month. Previous printer required new cartridge about every 3-4 months for same amount of work.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can Envy 4500, print using only the Black ink Cartridge?

print with black cartridge only, or when ink is full Black and empty color?
Print, Properties, Paper quality tab, Advanced tab, Under document Options & Print in Grayscale click Off, choose black Ink only or high quality grayscale, click OK, OK, OK.
