 Roku - 3 Streaming Player - Black
Roku - 3 Streaming Player - Black
Roku 3: Access more than 1,500 channels in up to 1080p and view videos from Netflix and YouTube directly on your TV. Fast, powerful and loaded with features, the motion-sensing remote lets you play games or plug in headphones to watch late-night flicks without waking up the household.

Better than other Roku models?

What's great about it: Great for streaming content
What's not so great: Value compared to other Roku models
I have both Roku 3 and Roku 1 devices. Roku 3 was my first purchase and made sense given our television has HDMI capabilities. However, Roku 1 (which we use on our non-HDMI televisions) seems to work just as well, has the same content, and doesn't seem to have any less functionality than Roku 3...except that it would not stream HD quality to a HDTV.
Don't get me wrong...the Roku 3 is great but I'm just not sure the increased cost is justified simply for viewing content in HD.

 Roku - 1 Streaming Player - Black
Roku - 1 Streaming Player - Black
Roku 1: Instantly stream your favorite content by connecting your TV to the Internet. Get set up in just a few easy steps, and access more than 2,000 channels of streaming entertainment. Find movies and shows in a flash with one-stop search or use your compatible device as a Roku remote.

Great and inexpensive option to cable TV

What's great about it: Amount of content; Ease of use
What's not so great: Must log in to channels separately on each Roku device
While Roku 1 is the least advanced of the current line, it still is a powerful device for streaming content. We chose to buy Roku 1 for an older television without HDMI functionality. I was concerned that Roku features would be stripped down and lacking but that's not the case. The appearance of the user interface is a bit different than more advanced models but all of the same options exist.
My only gripe, and it's more about Roku rather than the devices, is that if you have more than one Roku associated with your account, subscriber/pay channels require you to log in to access the content on each device. It would be preferable for the Roku account to hold the channel log in information and then disseminate it to the devices for easier access.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Easy to set-up, Inexpensive
What's not so great: Short power cord, Narrow horizontal viewing area
The camera is a fine product for its price point. However, two problematic issues (IMO) are (1) the camera comes with a very short power cord [remedied by purchasing an extension DC power cord - varying lengths are available online] and (2) horizontal viewing covers only a 45 degree area. The narrow field of view shouldn't be a problem if you're interested in monitoring a single door or window but this camera will not suffice if you're thinking to mount it in a corner and obtain full room coverage. For that purpose, you would need at least two of these cameras which then approaches the cost of a single camera that has rotate/tilt functionality.
This product has... Short power cord

remote recording?

Can you use this in a cottage up north and control it on a computer at home?
Yes, you would need an Internet browser that can run Java and/or the MyDLink Lite app on your smart phone. Note, however, there are limitations on what you can "control," remotely. Since the product does not have tilt/pan functionality your image is static. That said, with the 1150 you can turn sound on/off, take a picture, switch between day/night/auto mode, turn sound detection on/off, turn motion detection on/off, and turn extender mode on/off.

does it need to be connected to a phone line and router?

I don't have WIFI is that required?
While it has WiFi capability it can also remain tethered to your router for it to function. Both the router and power cords are very short (no longer than 3 feet) so you'll need extensions if you want to place the camera far from your router.
