This remote seemed to work well when I first got it, but after a little while, I kept having issues out of it. Mostly the hub will stop responding..... a lot. I was also having issues quite often where the hub would send random commands. For example: I'd press the volume up key and the DVR would pause. Or I go to fast forward and the menu would popup. However, this particular problem seemed to be resolved with the latest firmware update. But the hub remains a big problem with not responding. Usually a reset of the hub will fix it, but today, it just stopped responding all together. Nothing I did fixed it. Unplug. Plug. Use the reset button. Nothing. I even have the latest firmware on it too. The remote is totally useless without the hub. Major design flaw. They should have allowed you to have the option to use the hub or not. This thing is NOT worth the money. I paid well over $200 for this stupid thing and I'm stuck with it because it's past the point where I can return it. Please, go find a different remote. The other Harmony remotes, without a hub, work beautifully. I'm going back to the 700 series Harmony. Personally, I think Logitech ought to pay me back or send me a free 700 series Harmony.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can I use this to control lighting and open a door?

I have a German door that can be operated electronically. I want to be able to unlock my door and turn certain lights on from my Apple iPhone just before arriving home. Does this system do that and how does it work? What do you need to make it work?
If your lighting and door opener currently have an IR (infrared) remote, then yes. In fact, I have my remote controlling my Lutron light switch. The Harmony series remotes can learn any command that another remote sends out. However, it does not work with RF (radio frequency) remotes. The software walks you through the process, but basically, you point the other remote at the back of the Harmony remote, press the desired button when the software tells you to and the remote learns the signal. The software lets you program just about any button to do whatever function you want.

Will this remote control a Bose system?

Can I use this to control my pc that's connected to my tv?

If I were to connect my PC to my HDTV by HDMI cable (they are 2 rooms away from each other), would this remote let me control the pc from that distance? There are several walls and no direct line of sight between the tv & pc. I simply want to view videos that are on my pc, but on my tv in the other room. I just have no way of controlling the pc from that room.
Possibly. The remote communicates with the hub via wifi. If your PC can currently be controlled by another remote, then yes, the Harmony should be able to control it too, that is, as long as the other remote sends an IR (infrared) signal and not RF (radio frequency). The Harmony can learn any IR command from another remote and the software walks you through the process. Caution though. I've had this remote for quite some time now and at first, everything work nicely. Then I started experiencing issues with the hub. Now it doesn't work at all and the remote is totally useless without it. I'm not buying another one. Logitech does make good remotes, but it's the hub that is junk.
