What's great about it: Picture quality, easy to set up, totally worth it!
What's not so great: Sound
Just bought this beauty 10 ten days ago and I'm really loving it. Picture quality is like nothing you have seen on a set for $700. Watching Wimbledon, you feel like you are right there on court with the players! Incredible experience.
I had Best Buy deliver it to my apartment and the set up took all of about ten minutes. Connected to the Internet with zero problems and my router is upstairs in my corner home office and I still get FIVE BARS!! So you really shouldn't have issues there. The different picture settings that Vizio ships with the TV are okay but I would recommend CNET's calibration settings for this TV. You'll get a picture that is as close to real - flesh tones, blacks, the works.
Yes the remote is a pain but what are you spending money for, the quality of the TV or the remote? Also, the sound while okay doesn't come close to matching the picture but if you are not a sensitive audiophile, you won't really mind.
The one glitch I have experienced so far was an issue connecting with Netflix. It wasn't an Internet connectivity problem; it had to do with Netflix's servers not being able to connect to the TV. This happened after four days of seamless connectivity and watching "House of Cards". I got on with Vizio's tech support and they walked me through the fix which included resetting the settings to factory default. Vizio told me that this will not happen again and I hope so because it is a pain to have to customize the TV. But the fix worked so I'm happy. You may experience this if you buy this set and it has to do more with Vizio than Netflix according to Netflix. (each company blamed the other predictably). The good news is that both companies are aware of it and hopefully, it will be resolved in the near future. There is a fix and it does work.
Can't wait for football and hockey. It should awesome watching games!

Are subscriptions required?

Do the apps that get internet content require subscriptions?

I'm guessing NetFlix - yes?
YouTube - no?
Yes, you must have an account set up or establish one with Netflix to stream movies and TV shows. Really easy to do. YouTube is free.
