What's great about it: Build quality, 8gb ram, battery life
What's not so great: Windows 8, Weight, Sluggish UI, Hours updating
I wanted to love this; I wanted to love windows 8. Ultimately, I couldn't justify even the sale price (699). This was my first time using windows 8. Yes, I did upgrade to 8.1. Windows 8 is even worse than most people give it credit for. Simple things like exiting a program and multitasking are headache inducing. This is not a melting pot to meld two distinct OS's (mobile and desktop) together. Rather, it feels like someone took duct tape and a nail and ended up damaging the OS for any occasion. However, if you actually like windows 8, I still wouldn't really recommend this particular laptop.
I like the way this thing flips into Tablet mode. But this thing is entirely too heavy to hold as a tablet. This is coming from somebody who is 6'1 and very fat. The touch screen on this feels off. I don't know what kind of glass is used, but it's not smooth. This makes simple swiping a pain.
This thing thing come with a 500GB HHD. I am spoiled with SSD and wanted to install one myself. I took the screws off the bottom, but the body seems to be glued together as well. I was afraid to even try putting an SSD in for fear of being stuck with a windows 8 machine.
I don't see the big deal about Haswell. This computer ran pretty slow. I would open the simple weather app and wait seconds for it to respond. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but we live in a world with Android and IOS where basic apps open immediately! The battery life seems pretty good on this for something that has a touch screen.
I installed all the updates several times before and after making the upgrades to 8.1. This thing still didn't run well. That annoying fan.... I though haswell would have cut down on that. My ASUS ZENBOOK prime on Windows 7 runs much better than this piece.
In conclusion, Windows 8 is the start of the end for MS. I can see why Valve wants to move it's gaming platform to Linux. I even bought a Chromebook before this machine and preferred it. Everything on this Windows 8 is needlessly complicated and annoying. This is coming from a guy in his 20's that loves computers. Get Android for a tablet, stick with Windows 7 or Linux for a desktop.
This product is... Big screen size, bulky
About me... Basic web surfing & emails, Social media enthusiast, Gamer, Business Professional, Comfortable with technology
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
