The product is ready to use out of the box. I backed up the following for my father-in-law: 1 iMac, 1 MacAir notebook and two phones before my wife and I went on vacation. Upon our return, my father-in-law thought he lost key data from all of his devices. Within a reasonable amount of time, all of his "priceless data" was restored.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does the my cloud have to be connected by the Ethernet cable to the router or can it be done wireless

To make a connection, either will work however, some phone backup applications will not work when device is connected via Wi-Fi (need to plug the NAS into the HUB).

Can I back up my WD MyBook and my Mac Mini to this Seagate?

MyBook is almost full and my Mac Mini internal drive is full, can I back both up to the Seagate?
I would recommend moving files to the storage device before backing up. Then mount the storage device as a network drive before scheduling back ups.

It depends upon the model, typically the smaller storage capacity but a great option when you are on the go. If there is a power chord, then the USB is for data. If the device supports Wi-Fi, the USB is optional and for data only.

Backup for a MacBook Pro Lap Top

I have a MacBook Pro lap top computer. Would it be better to purchase the Seagate Backup Plus 3TB External hard drive or the Seagate Backup Plus for Mac 3 TB External hard drive? The first one mentioned has a faster rotation.
The Seagate Mac is configured to support the TimeMachine right out of the box. If you are using drag and drop or an application that supports storing backups to a network folder, then it should not matter which device you select.
