I got this device from Sirius because my new car does not come with XM as an available option for install. The device once out of the box feels like a cheap plastic toy so for the price don't expect a sturdy little thing that will handle those unexpected events like drops when installing or changing position or anything like that. The device once powered on has a very tiny display with very tiny buttons. For people with big hands avoid this device now because the pre-set buttons are unforgiving when trying to use them. After a short week of use the buttons stopped operating. I tried unplugging the device and plugging back in, I even shook and blew on it like a Nintendo cartridge thinking maybe something from my vent blew into the device and is messing with it. Nothing. Device still powers on but I am hence stuck on the same channel with no option to change it or adjust the FM channel as its the only way to listen since my new car has no AUX input. The buttons were also very confusing and didn't do what I would think they would do in the normal working environment. I reached out to SiriusXM with no options but to send it back and have no XM service for a month or more. They had no other options to support me while I was without service. The device is awful and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone if they wanted something worth using. It is small but there is a catch with smallness and for this device its def a downfall.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

How does it connect in a vehicle? Do you connect to the auxillary port on the front of the factory radio or does the installation require tools?

You can connect a few ways, if your vehicle is older you can connect to the docking a cassette tape adapter and it will play over the speakers that way, if your in a newer car you can of course use the adapter for AUX. AUX will provide you with the best sound quality compared to the other option which is connecting over the FM. The car docking units when mounted allows for the device to let off a connection to the FM. It's very weak and usually XM customer service will recommend you buy and install their FMDA adapter that attaches to your car's FM antenna as an extension to connect the device directly so that it overpowers outside FM channels from playing over the channel you choose to use. Always choose a channel that is not being used and the FMDA will ensure for the best quality. The use of the FMDA allows for better sound quality, not as good as AUX tho, but also if you drive a long distance you don't have to worry about changing and adjusting channels as it works to ensure your XM is playing over it compared to a local station if you were to end up somewhere where the channel is being used for broadcast. If you have AUX i would use it over the FM but if you don't want cables all over the FM is a bit cleaner of a look with less wires, but you sacrifice sound quality and stable listening.
