What's great about it: It appears to heat the food
What's not so great: Everything about it screams "cheap"
I've owned several Sharp microwave ovens over the years. My last Sharp Convection #over the range, top of the line# was great until it stopped heating last week, although the convection part still works so I'm reluctant to uninstall it completely. #Apparently there is no cost-effective way to fix these things... just add them to the junk pile# So I decided to get a simple countertop unit and selected this one.
My issues so far: Right out of the box the door is obviously mis-aligned. There is no light inside when you open the door - the light only comes on when the unit is running. The power cord is literally about 18 inches long, rendering it useless without an extension cord. The digital display looks like it came from a $4.95 alarm clock. Sharp - what the heck happened to your quality?? Unfortunately this appears to be another "made in China" disposable piece of junk. I will return it this week and spend more to hopefully get something better.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

broken makes loud humming noise, runs, but does not heat. where to get service and cost

If you can still return it I would do so. These things cost more to service than its worth, not to mention the haasle. I live in Orange County, CA, population 4 million, and per customer service there is NOT ONE Sharp service center in the county... go figure.
