What's great about it: The sound

Till now I would not dream of picking up a Vizio product. I am a total Samsung guy. However, over the years I have seen the quality of Vizio's products improve. I picked up this sound bar after I was extremely unhappy with the Samsung HW-H450 sound bar. Right away I was blow away by the sound quality. The wireless subwoofer is very powerful and satellite speakers helps produce a superb sound. The 5.1 channel sound is wonderful; my living room was rumbling and shaking. I am running the sound bar to my Samsung 4K TV via optical cable. Games and bluray movies on the Xbox one, PS4, and PS3 sound incredible. I do wish I come run the audio through an HDMI but that is minor.
The set up is very quick and easy; I was up and running in about 7-10 minutes. The LCD on the remote is a nice touch. You can adjust the bass, treble, subwoofer strength, and surround sound. The Bluetooth strength is great. I am easily able to connect from anywhere in my apartment. Similar to others, it would have been nice if the cables for the satellite speakers were longer but like the HDMI connection this minor.
Overall I am very pleased and surprised by this product and would highly recommend if you are looking for something less than $300.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Design
What's not so great: Sound is weak
I had this sound bar for 3-4 hours. After trying different connections i.e. Optical and Hdmi, I could not believe how weak the sound was that came from this sound bar. I have an older samsung sound bar that sounds great and fills my living room. Therefore I was hoping for the same. The subwoofer is significantly under powered and one needs to turn the volume high to get a decent sound. So after 4 hours I took it back. Perhaps if I did not have another sound bar to compare it to, I would have like it a little more. I recommend the Vizio S4251W
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been on the fence about buying a 4K TV; I finally made the plunge, and I must say that this TV is simply fantastic. The picture quality blows me away. I have a PS4, Xbox One, and PS3 connect via high speed HDMI. Games are more vibrant and clear without any lag (did not think it was possible). I put a bluray movie in and had a visual climax. Such crispiness in the picture and deep colors. There is no motion blur. You will need to tweak the picture settings to get the most optimal picture. I recommend upgrading to the high speed HDMI cables. I am not a fan of 3D, but the active 3D is very nice. You will need an external sound system because the internal speakers are average. I have a sound bar and the sound output is excellent. The setup was quick and easy. The smart hub and apps are great. The 4K material is optical bliss. Can't wait for more 4K movies.

Does the system work without the two rear speakers plugged into the wireless sub?

I was considering buying this system but was thinking about my current home theater set up and didn't know if I have the space to utilize the two rear surround speakers. I was wondering if the system functioned as a 3.1 if you didn't use the two rear surrounds? I like this system over the 2.1 but might not use the rears at first. Can anyone help me with this question.
It works without the satellite speakers. However, you will be missing out on good sound quality. It is like night and day without them. Not sure if it is 3.1 without them, but the 5.1 sound that this bar produces is très magnifique. Hope that helps.
