Included paper template relates to nothing. Use the cardboard cutout from the box and double-triple check with a measuring tape.
Front vent for re-circulation fan is wide open. Stuff can fall out of upper cabinet and get lost in there.

This oven is a replacement for one that died after 15 years. Install was easy enough, I had to drill new holes for the power cord and upper screws and like I mentioned, check the template you get to make sure it fits the unit you have.
I'm going to look for something to fill the vent I don't use. In my install the oven sticks out a bit from the cabinets and there is a chance of things getting dropped down into the vent.

need a stainless steel microwave that can be mounted over the range and vented outside

This oven can be vented out the back and through the wall, out the top and through the roof or recirculated back into the room.

Do you need to buy separate hardware to mount this microwave?
Nope.
Might need venting parts if you are running the exhaust fan to the outside.

does this have finished sides for mounting without cabinet?
White metal sides. They are stamped for strength but have a good finish.

Does this uniy come with a hanging/trim kit or not. Also can it be installed with a 30x12x12 cabinet above it?
I am replacing an older model that is attached to the 30x12x15 H cabinet above. I will have the cabinet from a 15" H to a 12" H. Will this model be able to attach to the 12"H cabinet? Also does the hanging/trim kit come with it or does it have to be ordered separately?
There is no trim kit. Hanging kit consists of a metal strip that goes on the wall and two bolts that go through the cabinet bottom.
I installed mine under a cabinet that is 30" wide, 18" high and 12" deep. The upper bolt holes are 10 inches from the wall.
