I purchased this "Smart Oven" five days ago, and so far I've used it every day as a microwave, and last night as a combination convection oven / microwave (to heat a frozen pizza). I read every review here and on several other sites, along with all the Q&As, before purchasing this product; I also watched a few YouTube videos and reviews from a few consumer ratings guides. Despite several reviews reporting premature deaths, I decided to take the plunge.
Overall, so far, I'm pleased with the oven. It microwaves just as well as my former microwave, which was an over-the-range unit in an apartment I was renting, which I guess is no surprise since that unit was also a 1,000-watt microwave. What is surprising is the amount of space inside this little 1.1-cubic-foot monster. I have no problem getting large casserole dishes -- or a "full-size" Red Baron pizza -- in it. It's fairly quiet, the controls are very tactile (as another reviewer stated, it features real pushbuttons instead of the now commonplace membrane pads) and the detented control knob is actually easier and quicker to use than those danged membrane numeric pads on other units.
I will agree that when you're using the convection feature, the back and top of the oven get really warm -- not actually hot enough to burn you, but hot enough to make you remove your hand very quickly! I really like the display too -- very bright and easy to read, and I love how it "disappears" behind what looks like a brushed-aluminum panel when it's disabled. I also like the way the oven door opens. It seems more sturdy than the pushbutton, side-opening doors on most ovens in this price range ... and I read a lot of reviews of Panasonics, LGs and others that have troublesome doors. I read some reviews here stating that the door doesn't lay flat when opened ... well, if you have standard-depth countertops, this isn't a problem since the handle, which is what keeps the door from opening flat, hangs off the countertop when the door is opened ... and in that case, yes, the door opens flat.
Now for the exception that made me give this product four stars instead of five. I was astounded to discover that this $250 ($400 if you believe the retail price, which you won't pay anywhere) oven does not have a kitchen timer of any kind! I've never owned a microwave oven that doesn't have one! On an oven that claims to do just about everything, this was a shock. Maybe Samsung, believing that this thing truly is the cooking appliance that replaces all other cooking appliances, thought its users would throw away their stoves and ovens, and never need to use a kitchen timer again? Also, while I applaud the corporate world's efforts to protect our environment, what's up with the owner's manual that's printed on newspaper? (It really is, folks!) I've never seen such a flimsy manual -- especially considering the fact that you'll be consulting it a *lot* while you're learning how to use all of this appliance's features. Thank goodness you can go to Samsung's website and download a copy that you can print on real paper. Like I said, I've only had this oven for five days, and already my owner's manual is tearing and falling apart. (Warning: it will nearly dissolve if it gets wet!) Frankly, with all the features this oven has, maybe Samsung would consider providing a laminated or plastic "cheat sheet" that owners could keep beside it for reference. I know I'd appreciate it.
I went ahead and purchased Best Buy's 2-year extended warranty just in case. So far, I'm impressed; as for longevity, we'll see!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is the cooker very noisy? Is it easy to clean?

That's a pretty subjective question. The easiest way I can think of to answer it is to say that it's no louder or quieter than other microwave ovens I've owned. In convection mode it's a lot quieter since there's no buzzy magnetron operating in that mode. (There is a convection fan, however, but it's not objectionable.) Easy to clean? Well, the inside is porcelain-lined, and it wipes up pretty easily. I never use anything other than a damp sponge or towel with a drop or two of Dawn on it, following up with a damp towel ... then leaving the door open and allowing the oven to air-dry. The area around the grill element at the "roof" of the oven cavity is a little more cumbersome to clean around, but if you keep things covered when cooking, cleanups are minimal and infrequent. And of course, the glass turntable and the plastic doohickey that makes it rotate lift right out, and the turntable is dishwasher-safe.

Depth without handle

What is the depth of this unit, not including the handle?
Well, let's see here. (Gets up, goes to closet, grabs trusty Stanley tape measure from toolbox, measures oven ...) The oven is 18 inches deep from the front of the door to the back of the heat shield on the back. Add 1.5 inches if you want to include the handle. And before anyone else chimes in, here are the rest of the dimensions: Height, 12 inches. Width, 20-3/4 inches. Now I gotta get up and put away the danged tape measure! Geesh, the things I do for you. :)

We just purchased, and it makes a loud vibrating noise in microwave mode. Has anyone else experienced this?

The magnetron in a microwave (the thing that makes the microwaves) often makes a buzzing sound that can be mistaken for a vibration or loose part in the oven. It's not. Mine's made that buzzing sound since day one. To confirm it's the magnetron, run the oven for a few seconds in convection-only mode. Notice no buzzing noise? It's the magnetron. Nothing's wrong with your oven.

Does the left side and top of this microwave get extremely hot when in use?

When you're using it as a convection oven or in grill mode, yes ... hot enough that if I have anything sitting on top of the oven, I remove it while using these features. I don't think it would be hot enough to actually start a fire, but safety first, you know!

Can you make toast with it ?

Yes -- although a conventional toaster would probably do it faster and more conveniently. You'd have to place the tall rack on the turntable and set the oven to "grill" it -- it's got a broiler element in the top of the oven cavity.

Can you set a temperature? Don't think so, but just checking

During convection mode, yes, you can -- in 25-degree increments IIRC. Up to 400 degrees F.

Smart Microwave/Convection Oven stays on after "fast preheat" is turned off

I noticed the oven stays "on" after turning off of "fast preheat" mode. It was hot. Was the fan cooling off the oven? Is this normal operation?
Yes. Mine does the same. I leave the door open during the 1- to 2-minute cooldown period to help the fan cool the oven off.

I've never had a microwave that has a forward opening door rather than one that opens to the side. Has anyone found this to be inconvenient?. My husband sees this as a problem for some reason.

I found it to be very *convenient* since you don't need to worry about having extra countertop space to the left or right of the oven to allow the door to swing open. And, visit your store and try out a few microwave oven doors. This one is MUCH sturdier and doesn't have a problematic pushbutton -- which on most microwaves feels very flimsy and, if you read the reviews, most also suffer from sticking from time to time. No such problem with this one.
