What's great about it: Easy to modify, battery life, fast, awesome trackpad, great price!!!!

What's not so great: plastic build, case could have been made a tad better.

This is a great machine. Windows 8.1 is a decent experience, however; ASUS is awesome enough to include windows 7 drivers on their website, so you can easily downgrade this system to windows 7 if you have the media and product key. That being said, we use this system as a presentation device, so when we purchased it, we opened the system, replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive ( it will take either a 7mm or 9.5mm hard drive. The DVD drive we replaced with a Blu-ray drive, and the original wifi card we replaced with a wifi/Bluetooth combo card and reinstalled the system with windows 7 pro 64bit. This system runs phenomenally, and can handle being bumped around since it now has a SSD instead of a HD. This system is responsive ( Bay-Trail-M ) architecture and quick enough to play Blu-ray presentations without even so much as a hiccup. Well done ASUS!

Mouse compatibility

Can u use this machine with a wireless mouse??

Yes, you can use either a wireless or wired mouse. Just keep in mind that it has one USB 2.0 port and one USB 3.0 port, so you would be using one of those ports with an external wired or wireless mouse.

Microsoft office?

Does this have Microsoft Office or would I need to install it/ purchase it ?

This system comes with a trial version of Office 2013. After the trial runs out, you would have to purchase a full version of Office.

Will this laptop play Sims 3?

Yes, it will play Sims 3,and play it very well, but the graphics might be limited in some areas in terms of shading, etc. It has a very good graphics unit in it, however; it doesn't compare to a discrete graphics solution from a Radeon or NVidia.

No, this system is not a touch-screen.

Does it have a VGA port? The photo shows it does but do not see it listed on the box?

What is the average battery life?

If you're using the system moderately, such as reading a book or writing a document with occasional WIFI or DVD drive usage, I have been able to get close to 6 hours out of this battery. If you're using it to watch a DVD movie, or streaming video on WIFI, playing a game, etc, you're going to get closer to about 2 and a half to 3 hours of battery. Battery life on this unit, as with other units will vary depending on usage and how you have your power management settings set. Also swapping out the HD to a SSD also gives you more battery life to play with.

Windows 8.1 and Wifi problems?

I've read different reviews about laptops running Windows 8.1 unable to connect because of wifi problems.

Question is, does this Asus X551MAV-RCLN06 laptop have the wifi issues associated with Windows 8.1?

No, this system does not have that problem with WIFI and Windows 8.1. For those other systems out there that do though, a WIFI driver update fixes every one of those systems.

cd drive?

is there a cd/dvd drive in this unit?

Yes, this system has an 8X DVDRW/CDRW drive installed. It is on the right-hand side of the system.

Yes, this system does have an HDMI port on the left hand side next to the VGA and USB ports.

is the battery replaceable

Yes, and no. The system does not have an opening on the bottom, so the battery is not user-replaceable. If you open the system though, it is a self-contained sealed unit you would see with other laptops and you can pull it out in one piece and replace it, should a problem develop with it.
