Bought this laptop on sale, and then a week later, I see it for another $30 off the sale price. Called Best Buy and they gave me the lower sale price. Love that price matching policy! Purchased this laptop for sister who wants to learn Linux Mint. Put the Windows 10 OS on flashdrive, and then installed Linux Mint for her. Everything works great now including printer. It did take some tweaking to get the sound to work on Google vid chat, but it works fine now. This machine is super fast using the new operating system.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This review may be pointless, as I see that the 'online supply is out-of-stock'. Still, I'm so pleased with the price and the quality that I shall go ahead with the review. I would have given 5 stars, but I've only had it a few days, and because there is one glitchy feature. Even a light touch on the pad while typing, sends the cursor skittering elsewhere. Other than that, it's a great machine for less than $200. The goal when I chose to buy this laptop was to wipe it and install Linux Mint. I had to change settings in the BIOS, eliminate my password, and after that the install was finally successful. Now I have a very fast machine, running multiple browsers and tasks, with no strain at all on this system. What a great purchase! And it would probably be a good computer for users wishing to do the basics, even if they kept Windows. That's what many other users stated in their reviews.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I do a!of of recording my own music. How is the sound system?

My sister said the sound is okay, meaning 'average'. She said she was used to the external speakers attached to her desktop, so the new laptop speakers sounded less impressive. You may require something more than 'average'. Other than that, she is very happy with it.

Can I downgrade to Window 7 instead of Window 8.1

Yes, but you will have to buy or obtain the Win 7 licensed version. I just installed Linux Mint on this machine and it works fine. If you can get Linux on it, I'm sure Win 7 will work.

BACKLIT KEYBOARD?

Keyboard is not backlit. No caps and number lights either.
