What's great about it: "Always On" face, swappable wrist band, good aesthetics
What's not so great: NO MUSIC PLAYER. Pedometer is poor, heart rate monitor only seems to work when i'm resting.
To be honest, 3 stars doesn't quite highlight my disappointment with this watch, and I will probably be returning it for the Neo. I read a few comparison reviews and watched some YouTube videos between the two watches, and apparently they were done by Google/Android fanboys that decided to leave out the downsides, as almost every review between the two seems to ONLY highlight how the Live is better than the Neo. I agree that long term, Android Wear will probably get more updates than Tizen is bound to, but for the time being, this watch loses.
I appreciate the aesthetic of the always-on watch face, but if all I wanted was a good looking smart watch, I would have waited for the Moto360. I made the foolish assumption after watching reviews, that this was basically the Neo, sans IR blaster, but with Android Wear instead of Tizen...it is not. The pedometer on the Neo is exponentially better for the simple fact that it also calculates distance covered and elapsed time, which is great for running. Having used my wife's I can say that it does this quite accurately I might add. To gather the same information about my run using this watch I am required to pair it to my phone and run a separate application to track my run. Second, and hugely important in my opinion, the Neo gives you a standalone music player to actually put that 4GB of storage to use. Coupled with it's ability to stream to my bluetooth headphones, it means you can go running and not have to wear an armband or keep your phone in your pocket . Just a watch and headphones! I am blown away that this is not included in Android Wear. I imagine it will be in future releases, but why not now. In my opinion, watches running Android Wear really seem to be useless without your phone in reach. I get that it is made to be an accessory to your phone more than a standalone device, but come on!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can you answer your phone as you can with the gear 2?

Yes and no. You can accept a call from your watch, but you have to pick up the phone to actually take the call, as there is no speaker in the Live.

gear live vs. gear 1 or 2

I would like to know what are the pros and cons of the GEAR LIVE compared to the GEAR 1 and 2?
First, recognize that the Live is running Android Wear, and the Gear 2/Gear 2 Neo are on Tizen. I can't speak to the Gear 1, but as a current owner of the Gear Live I recommend going with the Neo at the same price point. I plan to return my Live in the next couple days to get the Neo myself. The Neo stands out in two ways to me. First, and most important to me, it has a stand alone music player and can pair to a bluetooth headset to stream that music during a workout with no need to have a phone around actually supplying the music. Second, the fitness apps offered by Samsung on Tizen are much better than the pedometer only function of Android Wear. Almost certainly, the long term promise of Android Wear is better than that of Tizen, but personally, I think I'll be revisiting it when we are closer to that horizon. This current offering leaves much to be desired.
