I am from India and my cousin is from the USA and he gifted me this drive that he bought.. i wanted to know if i can service this thing in India because it has died on me here in INDIA?

Can this device back-up two Macs?

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook. Can it be used to back-up both or do I need to get two?

Yes you can. Just one after the other, not at the same time

Windows and Mac compatability

I currently have a Windows 7 PC and want to back up to this WD - can I then restore these files easily to a Mac - I am thinking of buying a Mac laptop in the near future

Can I use 1 device for a Mac & PC?

I have a Mac & a PC that I need to backup. I can I use 1 of these devices for both at the same time or do I have to get 1 devices?

You can use the same device for multiple devices but not at the same time. If that is what you are asking. You can't plug it into your Mac and download and then PC.

Will I be able to transfer photos from my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone to this device?

No, you I'll have to save your pics to a computer, laptop and then plug this device into your laptop and save them from there.

How Much Will It Hold?

I want to store my entire CD collection in here. Any idea how many CDs it will hold? I have Approximately 468.

It depends on how many songs per CD but yes, An Audio CD can hold max. 80 minutes of music. The file size of the source is not important. It's because the source (mp3, m4a, WAV or AIFF) has to be converted to the native format of an audio CD (16 bit PCM) and that allows only 80 minutes on a 700 MB CD.
You should have no problem.

Compatability with PC and Mac

I currently have a Windows 8 PC and a Mac iphone and Ipad - if I want to save my photos from my Mac devices can I do it directly to the WD or do I have to save first to PC?

No you can do it directly. Think of all the people that don't have a PC. Plug directly to your MacBook. If I am misunderstood and you have Apple iPhone and iPad but no MacBook the yes you would have to save it to a PC first . You cannot plug this into and iPhone or iPad. Hope that helps

how many songs can you download?

Hi, I have about 1500 songs on a device and that takes about 8 Gigabytes. This storage device is 2000 gigabytes. I am sure you can do the math
