I bought the Turtle Beach 800 series for their audio performance and less for gaming. However, I do own both a Xbox one and PS4 and was amazed by how much they changed my experience while playing them. They have actually encouraged me to play more, as I am not becoming more engrossed in my gaming experience. The audio quality is crisp and detailed, and the utility of the headphones are outstanding. I can pair the headphones to their radio transmitter in order to play my console games, and I can use the bluetooth protocol on my PC for gaming there as well. Even better, I can pair to both at the same time and simultaneously listen to audio from both sources. Meaning, I can run my favorite playlist off of my PC while gaming on my PS4/Xbox one and adjust the audio between each source to prioritize what I want to hear more. The active noise cancelling is incredible. It gives me an isolated feeling that pushes out the ambience around me and sucks me in to the experience. The other presets on the headset are more luxuries than anything, and I dont really use them, but I can understand their merit for more hardcore gamers (i.e: superhuman hearing or "Footstep isolator")
Lastly, I've seen a lot of poor reviews on here for this amazing product purely due to user error. When connecting to the ps4, you need to adjust your settings so the ps4 knows not to prioritize the usb connection for the headset. We want the audio to push from the optical audio and not the usb. For a very easy set up and an unbeatable experience, connect both the USB power cord and the Optical Audio cable directly to the TV in use. This set up will push any audio that would traditionally come from the TV into the transmitter and to the Headset. This set up will give us audio from anything connected to the TV. Consoles, Cable, Antenna, and even smart features on the television... and it will sound AWESOME.

Durability?
Are the earpiece extenders plastic or steel?
They are unfortunately plastic, but with an aluminum center. It's a fairly thick piece (about 2mm) and it feels fairly hefty, but all the same, is still plastic.

Proper set up configuration for the optical and usb connections?
When connecting a PS4 and and XboxOne, how do I route the USB and Optical connections, so that it will work with both systems without having to unplugging this and move it here. I understand how to connect one system or the other, but how do I do it at one time?
Connect the transmitter directly to the television. Use the optical and usb ports on the tv, and as long as the tv is on, it will power the transmitter and push any audio on the tv through the transmitter.

does this work on the pc flawlessly?
Wondering as I had bought ear force tangos from turtle beach late last year and despite them saying it would work it was plagued with issues.
You can connect them via 3.5 mm, but youre going to lose the surround sound ability. If your computer somehow has an optical audio out, then youre golden. Otherwise, you'd be better off getting the turtle beach 450.

If i buy a xbox one adapter can i plug a cord that comes with it to use it on my xbox one and ps4?
Connect the transmitter directly to the TV via optical audio and you can push any audio from the TV to the headset. Prevents the need to swap between consoles.
Just make sure your audio settings on your consoles and TV are set to DTS or Dolby surround sound to take full advantage of the headset's ability.
