I cannot say this enough as a Best Buy regular customer, the laptops that receive bad reviews here are from people who DO NOT realize these laptops were not manufactured by Best Buy, therefore you need to spend about 4-5 hours of updating Windows 10 and other drivers before you start using it for your personal use.
This Laptop, WOW, without a dedicated graphics card, and I work in IT at a state agency, I just cannot say enough how great this Laptop is, how well it performs, how fast it is on the internet. There isn't one negative thing I can think of other than the washed out color on the display. Unfortunately, I have always bought plus 1000 dollars on laptops previously. Was low on cash this year, found this online, looked at it in store, and was so surprised with the specs for that price. There is a trade off with no back lit keyboard (especially at night), and no dedicated discreet graphics card (GPU), but the Intel 520 is one of the better chipsets, and works best with the most RAM. You can easily upgrade this laptop as well, up to 16 GB of RAM DDR3, and slap in a 256 SSD, this rocks! I cannot believe I stumbled upon this, got it on a sale day, and I cannot thank both Best Buy and Lenovo enough for making the little guys like me happy too with an affordable laptop with great performance. I think if you start adjusting the display, you can get some good quality saturated colors, but it isn't a Nvidia 1080, which alone costs way over what this Laptop's total cost.
I am completely amazed, and totally recommend this to anyone. - but not heavy gamers. To those who gave this a one star, you are completely blinded by the fact you HAVE to do updates!
This is a gem for the price!

Unfortunately, as an avid Apple fan, having bought almost all of their product line throughout the years, this is by far their worst product they have unleashed to consumers. If you are into fancy looking 3D app displays that dazzle you while you load them, then this is your product. If you are interested in high quality video with a lot of content, choices, a USB port for personal media playback, and a crisper picture quality, I strongly suggest - DO NOT buy this product. I have an Apple TV 3 and bought this as an upgrade without reading any reviews. I guess that is my fault, but this by far is not worth the extra money or time to set up.
First thing of annoyance - when you start it, you have to waste a ton of time, re-downloading your favorite apps, doing so in an app store that barely has anything. The picture quality is not better than the 3 - just want people to know, if you have had the Apple 3, it plays exactly as the Apple 3 does in the quality of the video, nothing better. If you read the box, this is NOT any up-scaler towards an UHD - 4K experience, it is still ONLY 1080P, if that is what they want to call it, I definitely do not, it is more like a 720 P quality video. There is no USB hub to Plug n Play your personal media unlike others (Of course Apple doesn't offer that with any of their stand alone products).
If I can do so, I will bring this back for a refund. I still have the Apple 3 and if they both have the same quality streaming video, then in my opinion, I am just throwing money away at Apple for a fancy looking device that basically is the same as the 3,, but with an app store that doesn't offer much.
Another point I want to make sure consumers are aware of this product, the so called "new" apps in the app store do not play like the Apple 3 apps did. In example, if you had the HBO GO app on the Apple 3, all of you fans of HBO would know that the auto-play feature was excellent on the Apple 3, playing continuous content when allowed. The Apple 4 doesn't offer this yet. I have called Apple, and they can only say, because this is a new OS for the Apple TV, it is the developers of the apps who have yet to enhance the apps that can play on the Apple TV 4, so expect a downgrade instead of an upgrade on the apps.
All in all, this is not worth money nor time. Apple unleashed this piece of hardware prematurely. They should have waited until the apps were worth it for the consumers. Content - Horrible. You are tethered to iTunes only as far as buying a movie or show. Plus it never recognized my Apple ID.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was hesitant at first to buy an upgrade from my existing ROKU 3 Player, but went ahead this past weekend and bought the new ROKU 4. Wow, I was simply amazed when I put this together at home. First, using your ID with ROKU, it automatically downloaded all your previous apps I had on my ROKU 3, (mentioning this because others in its class don't do this), which was a huge time saver. Then I started with the Premium Apps, checking out the quality of the visual experience. I have to give this a full thumbs up, it met all my expectations and beyond. The quality this device can stream to your HDTV or UHD TV is amazingly beautiful. It auto scales up on all the Premium apps, plus even the free apps. One piece of advice though, do not store it while it is running in a very tight non-vented area. It tends to run very hot underneath and I certainly wouldn't want to burn this beast component's up in the inside. I would even consider a small PC like fan near it, or in the area where you store other devices like it, best to be safe than sorry later on down in time. This is definitely a must have for those who want the best of streaming movies and TV shows in higher quality HD and UHD. It really does the job, either a true 1080P (Unlike others say), and a very close to (If not perfect) UHD - 4K.. In my opinion, far superior than any other set top streaming HD to TV device out there! Lots of content as well to chose from, as this can be considered a true chord cutting device!

Can I install Windows 7 on this device?
Sure, why not? If it can handle Windows 10, it certainly can handle Windows 7. I would partition the drive being it is large, do half and half (500 MGs) + (500 MGs). Install Windows 7 on the clean partition, and use a software that can dual boot. When the computer starts, it will give you an option to load in Windows 10 or an "Earlier Version" which would be in your case, Windows 7. Just make sure you know how to do this, and you will need to buy a Windows 7 CD or Key from Microsoft. The days of giving Windows 10 as an upgrade for free are over with, so in that motherboard, it only has a Windows 10 key. You would need to purchase a new Windows 7 key before you install it and activate it. Google - Dual boot and you'll find a lot of information you need to create a partition. Good luck

Is this laptop good for Java/Eclipse programming?
Absolutely, funny, I haven't used that program in a while, but yes, it is very powerful with an i5 Intel chip. No problems with Java Eclipse.

Can this be expanded beyond 8 gb?
Yes, it can be upgraded to 16 GBs of DDR3. Very easy to do underneath, just be careful.

I understand the processor is dual core and NOT quad core because of the "U" designation in the number (i5-6200U), but what is the clock speed of the laptop in Ghz?
2.30 GHz, with turbo speeds up to or near 3.0 GHz.

Yes, it has an Ethernet jack input (RJ45) and also all the Wi-Fi you can receive, a/b/g/n/ and AC wireless, all work fantastic!
You can control all of that in Windows 10. If you do the Anniversary Update for Windows 10, the options to control all your network traffic is well designed.

Sid, if your projector has a HDMI Input or a VGA Input, yes.
The onboard HD 520 Graphics has a built in Options to make a dual display, a single display, shut off the internal display and only use the external display, and if using any external display, you are allowed to adjust your settings to 1080P, but nothing higher. Always remember though, if your using it as a dual display along with your built in Monitor, don't force your built in monitor to display at 1080P, only can you use 1080P when you display external monitor ONLY, not as dual.
