So I was talked into buying this product by a rep at Best Buy. Took it home, spent FOUR DAYS backing up my iMac but then could not access the backup files. Every time a screen changed it asked me to enter my registered user name and password- 46 times in two days, but who's counting? Had at least 8 email exchanges with Seagate tech and realized that they knew about as much as I did. Finally took it back last night and got a Seagate Backup Plus. Already have my iMac and Macbook Pro backed up and I CAN ACCESS THE FILES. It has not asked me once for a registered name or password.
As intuitive as Apple products are, the Seagate Central was just as non-intuitive.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best external drive to store DVDs.

I'm looking to store my DVDs on an external hard drive. Currently I have around 600 DVDs. Randomly hunting on the web this model came up recommended (as did the 6TB WD My Cloud). I am not tech savvy, so I would like the easiest and most effective way to do this without having to call a friend. Also, how much space do I need? Is four TBs enough?
If you ain't tech savvy, stay away from this product. I could not access my files once I did the back up and their tech support could not help either, except to say "Clear all and do another backup." Yeah, right, the first one took me four days. Uh-uh. I took the lousy thing back to Best Buy. Stick with the Seagate Back up plus and, yes, 4 TB is huge.

Worked great then stopped.

Was working fine for a few days, then I pressed reboot command from the main menu. After 15 minutes drive still could not be found on network. Now I cannot find drive anywhere and I power cycle but drive is gone from network. What to do?
Mine did not work that long. After one backup (it took four days) I could not access any of the backup files and their tech support could not tell me how, they just said clear all and do another backup. I took that as my que to take the lousy thing back to Best Buy.
