I didn't want to believe the people going on about the wifi issues. Thinking that by now there must be a driver upgrade to fix...... Not my luck.
When within 15 to 20 feet of my router I received my normal 40-50mps download and 15mps upload speeds, this excited me greatly! After setting up a few things I decided to test the wifi upstairs, ouch....... My dl speed barely got to 1mps and virtually no upload........ Hoping it was just a driver issue I installed newest drivers and bios........ No change. Meanwhile, two other laptops had no issues.
The tech at BB thinks it's the new 801.11ac receiver issue. The folks who have written that they've had no problems must have the new routers.
I really wanted this laptop to do at home music recording but it wasn't to be. All of this wasn't such a big deal as my BB is just up the road AND the manager was kind enough to give me a $999 Asus Q551LN-BBI706 for the $899 of the Toshiba. The Asus is 8gb ram that can be updated to 12, it's not a SS drive but I can record to a SS external drive, and it's a 2 in 1. So despite the minimal annoyance and minor let down, it ended up well and I'm happy!
For the record, the staff at my BB were awesome and had me in and out quickly....... Both times!
Lastly, it really surprises me that Toshiba hasn't dealt with this issue. With so many reviews and calls to their help lines, yet nothing, it does surprise.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What is the battery life?

Battery life is not listed anywhere.
I've had it for a couple weeks now and I would say about 6 hours with light use. Haven't gone below %10 but have used it being pretty busy and it's lasted 5hrs.

Will sound come out of this laptop without the included speaker being connected?

Yes and the 'speaker' included is like a mini sub woofer which does make it sound pretty good.

As laptops go the sound is good.

Does this touchscreen support input using a stylus?

Does this touchscreen support input using a stylus, such as the Wacom Bamboo Feel Stylus?
Don't know about your specific stylus but my generic rubber bulb works fine.

Best Buy specs say memory is expandable to 12 GB. Crucial shows it can handle 16 gb. Which one is correct?

Hi,

I was wondering the same thing myself. Asked on Tom's Hardware forum and one person said that Crucial often gets specific models specs slightly wrong.

My task manager shows two slots free with two 4gb sticks in.......

I guess I could call Asus but I've been so busy with after holiday stuff that I haven't really had time.
