Tablo - 2-Tuner Digital Video Recorder for HDTV Antennas with Wi-Fi - Black
Tablo 2-Tuner Digital Video Recorder for HDTV Antennas with Wi-Fi: Unlike traditional DVRs that connect to 1 TV with an HDMI cable, this device is a whole-home-DVR that has the capability to transmit TV shows to your remote devices over the Internet, so you can enjoy your shows even while you're away from home. Record or stream up to 2 live or recorded HDTV programs simultaneously on multiple devices, including your iPad, Android tablet, laptop, and smartphone, or on your TV using Roku, Chromecast or Apple TV.

The interface is very limited and way too slow. Using it from Roku is very limited, and you can only access the web page from a Google Chrome browser (which I don't use for anything else). I am trying to find a cable company alternative. This gets much of the programs I watch, but I find this so limited I don't know if I will keep it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Roku 3: Access more than 1,500 channels in up to 1080p and view videos from Netflix and YouTube directly on your TV. Fast, powerful and loaded with features, the motion-sensing remote lets you play games or plug in headphones to watch late-night flicks without waking up the household.

Seems to be the best option for me.

I bought this as a consideration for getting rid of my cable company. I do like this, but find it somewhat limited and annoyingly slow. The services, such as Hulu and Netfix, all have very large icons, which does not make it easier to use. I wish there was a way to set it to a text list which would make it easier to use. I also find it annoying that all the services have different interfaces, so the buttons on the remote behave differently for different services. The remote control is nice, and works well, but they are not IR, so I can't program my main remote control to work with it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

using a streaming player without a wireless router

Even though I use Time Warner Internet, I don't want to use a wireless router in my house. Is there any device, other than my computer, I can run my cable line to, then hook up to my TV, so I can watch Hulu Plus and Netflix? If not, please let me know the easiest way to hook all of it up.
Yes. Make sure you get model 3, which does have an Ethernet jack. Models 1 and 2 do not.

Would Roku 3 be useable with no internet, to stream from my laptop/Android phone using a Wireless Router?

Would Roku 3 be useable at my cottage to stream/mirror my laptop with Windows 8.1 (and or my Android Phone) to my TV? There is no internet access just a Wireless Router.
http://www.playon.tv/playcast might do what you're looking for. I've never used it, so I can't tell you anything about it, and I don't know if a Roku will do anything without Internet access.
