I purchased this modem/router to replace my old outdated one. The installation went fine using the default username and password that came with the product. All recommendations are to then customize your username and password. In trying to do this, I ran into great difficulty of how to do it.. I called the Motorola help number given with the product and was told that for them to help customize the username and password, it would cost me $30.00. After a heated discussion, I told them that was extortion and hung up. After working with Geek Squad with no success, I fumbled around for about 8 hours checking out help screens, resetting the modem/router, and trying different things. Finally I stumbled across the solution and was able to change the username and password. Once I figured it out, the procedure was fairly simple and would have taken the Motorola tech help only a few minutes to get me straight. Charging $30.00 to get their product working with a private username and password is ludicrous and I would rate their customer service as 000! Once I got it working, the modem/router seems to be working fine and has solved the problems I was having with my old router.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does Wave Broadband in WA State support this cable modem

Yes, I'm on Wave/Broadband and it works fine. You only need to call Wave/Broadband and give them the HFC MAC ID that comes with the product.

Does the unit have a switch to disable the wifi when not in use?

No. It needs to be powered off by unplugging or using an external switch.

would i put my modem ,where the wire comes in the house

would the best spot for your modem be at the beginning ,where the wire comes in the house
Actually you can put it anywhere that's convenient for a wire connection between the modem and the outlet coming from your server and at a location where the wi-fi output signal of the router covers the area you want to use it in.
