depends. You can't plug the ipad on the dock but, you can plug it in with the AUX wire.

Can iPod Classic be used with this dock/ speaker?

I need to replace my Bose speaker/ dock. (It is approximately five years old.) I need it to be compatible with my iPod Classic which has my music library on it.

I doubt it. this is for the new generation ipods or iphones or ipads. But you can use an AUX wire to just plug it in.

which ipod should I use with this speaker system???

The new generation ipods, for example the 5th generation or the iphone 6.

It is portable?

Is the SoundDock Series III portable? Can it play music without being plugged into an outlet?

Is it blue tooth connected ? No it is not. It has to either be plugged in to the AUX wire or plugged in to the sound dock. But you can control it by the bose REMOTE.

Enough sound for a small wedding reception?

I'm expecting about 60 people at my wedding reception in a L-shaped hall. I am setting up a dance floor in one section of the L. I can use the venue's sound system for announcements. I just need enough sound for dancing in a 20 ft by 20 ft area and a lower volume for dinner music. Will this provide what I need?

For 60 people, i don't know. Would you prefer loud music ? If not then this would be great for 60 people only because everyone will be able to hear each other speaking. I honestly wouldn't prefer you to use this device for a reception.
