They can watch the same movie or each choose to watch their own with the dual players. And with the 3 year protection I added if anything happens to them they will replace them at no cost to me!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Do you have to use headphones or will it play sound some other way?

They have great sound on their on without headphones but if you have two kiddos and they are watching two different movies and not the same one you may want them to wear headphones for your sanity. Hearing two different movies side by side is nerve racking on a long trip!

We have one child and 2 vehicles. Will one work in each car?

If you used the plug in with the prongs in one car and the car charger type in the other vehicle they should. Or you could purchase an extra charger if your vehicle doesn't have the plug in receptical. That's what's great is they can work together but neither is a slave device to the other so they can be used independently.

are the wires hidden?

No they are exposed but mine can all plug in the back and so it doesn't bother us in the front.
